We have an exciting opportunity for a 12 month fixed term contract for a Family Support Worker, based at Macclesfield. The hours of working are 37 hours per week. The role will be to support children, young people and their families in the community through a range of interventions which improve family/individual functioning.

About the Role

You will play a key role in helping children, young people and families achieve positive and sustainable change. Working closely alongside families, you will build trusted relationships, identify strengths and needs, and provide targeted support that improves outcomes for children and reduce the need for statutory intervention.

We are looking for a passionate and committed professional who believes in the power of relationships to create lasting change for children and families.

You will be motivated by working alongside families, recognising their strengths and supporting them to achieve positive outcomes. You will be a confident communicator, able to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners, and committed to delivering high quality, child centred support.

In this role you will lead on


  • Act as a key worker to a small number of children, young people and their families, working in partnership with them and any other relevant persons to identify and meet their assessed needs within the community.

  • Devise, implement and review individual care/support plans/pathway plans so that families are properly supported to the standards identified in the service specification.

  • Maintain effective record systems to enable the preparation of necessary reports to contribute to the care planning process.

  • Liaise and communicate with other agencies, parents and professional staff so that appropriate resources may be identified and mobilized for the benefit of children, young people and their families.

  • Be aware of and comply with the statutory requirements, departmental policies, equal opportunities and other regulations and procedures in order to ensure statutory and Departmental requirements are met.

  • Network within local communities in order to increase the range of resources available to “children in need” and their families and care leavers.

The successful candidate will bring


  • NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Child Care

  • Demonstrable experience of working with children / young people especially with trauma, neglect or challenging behaviour.

  • Experience of working with multi\-agencies

  • Strong knowledge of legislative children’s service frameworks, Families First Reforms and safeguarding responsibilities.

  • Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities.

  • Ability to write cohesive, and persuasive reports to influence successful outcomes.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • A commitment to continuous learning, teamwork and improving outcomes for children, young people and families.
