Maltgate Pubs Ltd is a growing independent pub company with a passion for quality food, welcoming venues and outstanding hospitality. From relaxed midweek lunches to cosy date nights and hearty Sunday roasts, we aim to make our pubs places guests return to time and again.
As part of our expansion plans, we’re looking for an Assistant Manager to support the day\-to\-day running of one of our venues.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in developing a strong front\-of\-house team and ensuring the high standards set by the company’s leadership are consistently delivered.
What We Are Looking For…
We’re looking for a hands\-on hospitality professional who leads by example, takes ownership of their shifts and knows how to get the best from a team.
You’ll be confident directing service, setting clear expectations and following up to make sure tasks are completed properly. You’ll understand that maintaining standards means being visible, supporting your team and addressing issues as they arise.

The Role…
This is a hands\-on front\-of\-house management role. You’ll be active on the floor, supporting the team during service and making sure company expectations translate into consistently high standards every day.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing daily shifts across the bar and restaurant, ensuring a welcoming, organised and efficient service.
- Upholding the standards set by the company’s leadership and ensuring every team member understands and follows them.
- Leading shift briefings, allocating duties and setting clear expectations for service, presentation and cleanliness.
- Monitoring performance throughout each shift, addressing issues promptly and checking that improvements are maintained.
- Coaching and training team members, giving constructive feedback and supporting new starters.
- Ensuring guests receive a warm welcome, attentive service and a positive experience from arrival to departure.
- Handling guest feedback and complaints professionally, resolving issues within your authority and escalating concerns when needed.
- Working closely with the kitchen team to coordinate service, communicate dietary requirements and manage busy periods.
- Supporting rota planning and managing staff deployment and breaks within agreed staffing levels.
- Overseeing opening and closing procedures, cash handling, till reconciliation and site security.
- Monitoring bar stock, supporting ordering and stocktakes, and keeping waste and stock losses to a minimum.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, venue presentation, food safety, allergen awareness and responsible alcohol service.
- Completing daily checks and records, reporting maintenance issues and following up on outstanding actions.
- Recording clear shift handovers and keeping company leadership informed of operational concerns, staffing matters and guest feedback.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience supervising or managing a team in a busy pub, restaurant or similar hospitality environment.
- Is confident leading both bar and restaurant service.
- Leads by example and is willing to step in wherever needed.
- Has a keen eye for detail and addresses falling standards promptly.
- Can hold team members accountable fairly, confidently and consistently.
- Communicates clearly with colleagues, the kitchen team and company leadership.
- Stays calm under pressure and makes sound decisions during busy shifts.
- Understands the importance of staffing costs, stock control and minimising waste.
- Is comfortable working to established company procedures and following management direction.
- Is reliable, organised and takes responsibility for following tasks through.
- Is available to work a mix of shifts, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
