We are looking for a dynamic and people\-focused Assistant General Manager to join the team at Martino’s.

This is a pivotal leadership role supporting the General Manager in the smooth and successful running of the restaurant. You’ll be a visible presence on the floor, leading from the front and helping create the warm, polished, and genuinely hospitable experience that keeps our guests coming back.

As Assistant General Manager, you’ll play a key role in building a positive and motivated team culture, developing our people, driving high standards of service, and maximising every opportunity to grow the business. You’ll work closely with the General Manager and wider management team to deliver strong commercial performance, excellent guest satisfaction, and high staff retention.

This is a hands\-on role for someone who thrives in a busy hospitality environment, enjoys developing people, and takes pride in delivering exceptional standards.

The Role

Working closely with the General Manager, you will support the day\-to\-day operation of Martino’s, ensuring the restaurant consistently delivers an outstanding guest experience while achieving its sales, margin, profit, people, and operational targets.

You will:

  • Lead and inspire the front\-of\-house team, setting the standard for warm, professional, and heartfelt hospitality.

  • Maintain a strong floor presence, supporting the team while building genuine relationships with guests and regulars.

  • Ensure every guest enjoys a seamless experience from arrival through to departure.

  • Handle guest feedback and complaints promptly, professionally, and graciously, turning challenges into positive outcomes.

  • Monitor service standards, guest feedback, and Mystery Diner results.

  • Support the General Manager in maximising sales opportunities and achieving revenue, margin, and profit targets.

  • Develop a strong understanding of the weekly flash P\&L, budgets, targets, and wage costs, using commercial insight to support effective decision\-making.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and ongoing development of team members.

  • Create a culture where people feel welcomed, recognised, supported, and motivated to perform at their best.

  • Work with the Head Chef, Bar Manager, Restaurant Manager, and wider management team to deliver outstanding product knowledge and service standards.

  • Lead the onboarding process for new employees and ensure HR information and records are accurately maintained.

  • Support regular one\-to\-ones, performance reviews, wellbeing conversations, return\-to\-work meetings, risk assessments, and other people processes.

  • Support the management of disciplinary and grievance processes in line with company policies and HR procedures.

  • Lead and manage the reservations function, ensuring bookings are maximised and guests receive excellent service both over the phone and in the restaurant.

  • Support effective rota planning, balancing business requirements with team wellbeing and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure payroll information and timecards are accurate and processed correctly and on time.

  • Maintain excellent standards of health \& safety, food safety, licensing, fire safety, COSHH, and other statutory requirements.

  • Work proactively with the team to ensure the restaurant is prepared for and responds appropriately to EHO inspections and audits.

  • Support the delivery of a consistently high\-quality food and beverage offer, working closely with the culinary and bar teams.

  • Ensure menus, allergen information, food and drinks compendiums, and relevant guest\-facing information remain accurate and up to date.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to handle challenging conversations constructively.

  • A commercial mindset and an understanding of sales, wage costs, budgets, margins, and P\&L performance.

  • A highly organised, adaptable, and solutions\-focused approach.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining consistently high standards.

  • The confidence and professionalism to lead from the front in a fast\-paced environment.

  • A genuine interest in people development and creating a workplace where team members feel valued and recognised.

  • Good knowledge of hospitality compliance, including health \& safety, licensing, food safety, and relevant statutory requirements.
