Engineering Project Assistant
Engineering Project Assistant
Perthshire, Scotland
Permanent, full\-time
Salary: depending on experience
About the role
JML Gabions \& Retention Solutions is looking for an Engineering Project Assistant to support our growing gabion and retaining wall division.
This is a brilliant early\-career opportunity for someone who is organised, curious and interested in engineering, construction or how things are built.
You do not need to be the finished article. What matters most is that you are reliable, methodical, good with detail and keen to learn. This role would suit a graduate, someone studying towards a construction or engineering\-related qualification, or someone early in their career who wants to build experience in a practical project environment.
You will work closely with the Project Manager and wider team, helping to keep the division organised, informed and moving. Your job will be to make sure records are up to date, information is easy to find, actions are followed through, and the team starts each day with a clear picture of what is happening.
It is a hands\-on, varied role based at our gabion prefill yard in Perthshire.
What you will be doing
You will help keep the Project Manager and team set up for the day by pulling together key information on production, labour, plant, deliveries and open issues. You will help maintain action trackers, highlight priorities and flag anything missing or that does not look right.
You will keep production records and trackers up to date, prepare weekly summaries, organise drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection forms, delivery notes and production records, and make sure the latest versions are easy to find.
You will also help with materials, deliveries and dispatch. This will include recording incoming deliveries, checking paperwork, helping maintain stock records, keeping delivery and dispatch logs, and supporting communication between suppliers, transport, the yard and site teams.
A key part of the role will be supporting quality, health and safety and general compliance records. You will help file inspection sheets, checklists, approvals, risk assessments, method statements, COSHH information, lifting plans and certification records. You will not be responsible for signing off quality or safety, but you will help make sure the records are in order and any gaps are flagged quickly.
As the division grows, you will also support daily and weekly meetings, take notes, follow up actions, help with project paperwork, assist with purchase orders and transport bookings, and support the evidence needed for accreditations such as ISO, Constructionline, SafeContractor and Achilles.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who is naturally organised and likes things to be in order.
You should be confident using Excel and everyday office software, able to write clearly, and comfortable summarising information for others. You will need to be accurate, reliable and able to juggle a busy day without losing sight of the detail.
You will be working with different people across the business, so clear communication and good follow\-through are important. If you say you will do something, we need to know it will be done.

Awareness of document control, quality records or health and safety paperwork
Full driving licence
Interest in progressing towards project controls, site engineering or construction management
Who this role would suit
