Job Overview

We are looking for a Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the effective day\-to\-day running of the children’s home, ensuring the delivery of high\-quality care and support to children and young people. The Deputy Manager will help maintain compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations, including the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.

Hours of Work:

Full\-time, mixture of shifts that will consist of working 09\.00\-17\.00 and 07\.30–22\.00\. Days, weekends, sleep\-ins, and on\-call duties as required. On average you will be required to work one 09\.00\-17\.00 a week and two shifts, these can change from week to week. To support the consistency in the home.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Registered Manager in the operational management of the home.

  • Lead shifts and provide guidance and supervision to the staff team.

  • Act as the Registered Manager in their absence.

  • Promote a positive, child\-centred culture and high standards of practice.

  • Assist with recruitment, induction, and probation of staff
Safeguarding and child protection:
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of all children and young people.

  • Respond to safeguarding concerns in line with company procedures and statutory guidance such as Working Together to Safeguard Children.

  • Monitor incidents, restraints, and complaints to identify themes and learning.
Care Planning and Outcomes:
  • Oversee placement plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support plans.

  • Ensure young people are supported in education, health, and independence.

  • Promote positive relationships and therapeutic approaches
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
  • Support compliance with Ofsted requirements and the home’s Statement of Purpose.

  • Conduct audits of records, medication, health and safety, and staff files.

  • Assist with Regulation 44 visits and implement actions.
Staff Development:
  • Provide supervision and support to staff.

  • Monitor mandatory training and qualifications, including the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare.

  • Address performance concerns promptly and professionally.
Multi Agency Working:
  • Liaise with social workers, schools, health professionals, and families.

  • Attend reviews, strategy meetings, and other professional meetings
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.

  • Support rota management and staffing arrangements.

  • Participate in the on\-call rota.
Essential Requirements:
  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).

  • Experience working in a children’s residential setting.

  • Experience supervising or leading staff.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and relevant legislation.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable skills:
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards).

  • Experience of Ofsted inspections and quality assurance.

  • Excellent organisational skills.

Pay: £32,000\.00\-£40,000\.00 per year
