Job summary

You will be at the forefront of the Commission's data strategy and management activities, playing a crucial role in enhancing the Commission’s data governance practices and developing a data\-driven and data\-literate culture.

You will be responsible for the project aspects of data governance and will lead data maturity assessments, manage the Information Asset Register, and provide strategic support to the Data Strategy and Governance Group.

You will be instrumental in supporting and delivering data literacy initiatives, contributing to better use and management of data within the Commission and empowering staff across the Commission to make informed, data\-driven decisions. By fostering a culture of data literacy and championing best practices in data governance, you will play a vital role in maximising the value of the Commission’s data assets, increase data maturity and data literacy and driving informed decision\-making across all levels of the Commission.

As a key member of the Data team, you will also provide project management support for various data\-related initiatives, supporting the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects that align with the Commission’s data strategy and objectives.

Job description

Key responsibilities:

  • Data Governance \- demonstrate up\-to\-date knowledge of data governance theory, standard methodology and the practical considerations. Support an end\-to\-end data governance framework (the processes, operational policies and standards needed to support good data management). Work effectively with technical teams and other stakeholders to implement a data governance framework and make recommendations to ensure compliance.

  • Commission Futures Programme \- working closely with programme teams to ensure that data is managed as a strategic asset, promoting consistent standards for data quality, ownership, security, and compliance. By developing guidance, supporting governance frameworks, and facilitating collaboration between stakeholders, you will help ensure that new systems and processes align with best practice, enabling reliable, transparent, and well\-governed data to underpin improved decision\-making and regulatory effectiveness within the Charity Commission.

  • Data Maturity \- responsible for the planning, management and delivery of Data Maturity Assessments based on the Government Framework to measure, improve and maintain the health and strength of our data ecosystems.

  • Information Asset Register (IAR) \- responsible for managing, maintaining, and where appropriate, enhancing the IAR and the services related to it for the Commission.

  • Data Strategy and Governance Group \- support the planning, management and facilitation of the Commission’s Data Strategy and Governance Group.

  • Data Literacy – support and foster a culture of data literacy in the Commission. Deliver and track recommendations from IAR audits and the data maturity assessments. Develop training for Information Asset Owners and Data Stewards and support wider data literacy initiatives.

  • Project Management – provide project management support to various data related projects for the Data team.
