Computershare are currently looking to recruit a Core System Engineer to join one of our Global Development squads within Computershare Technology Services.

A role you will love
As a Core System Engineer, you'll work closely with engineers, business analysts, and other technology professionals to support and enhance core business systems.
You'll be encouraged to develop your technical knowledge through a combination of structured learning, practical experience, and ongoing mentorship. Regular performance reviews and development discussions will help identify opportunities for growth and career progression.
Key responsibilities
- Learn and develop proficiency in the COBOL programming language through structured training and on\-the\-job experience, including working with COBOL applications running on Linux systems.
- Assist in the maintenance, enhancement, and support of business\-critical core systems built predominantly in COBOL.
- Collaborate with engineers and business analysts to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
- Write, test, troubleshoot, and debug code to support high\-quality software delivery.
- Develop an understanding of modern software engineering practices, including the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), source control, automated testing, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement activities.

Other skills/experience required for the role:
- Graduate in a relevant degree (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Engineering), or an ability to demonstrate strong logical problem\-solving skills and aptitude for programming.
- Willingness and enthusiasm to learn COBOL and develop software engineering skills.
- A methodical approach to problem\-solving.
- Exposure to programming, scripting, databases, or software development concepts.
- Familiarity with version control systems or collaborative development practices.
- An interest in Linux environments and enterprise applications.
