Overview
Do you care about making a meaningful difference in your community? Do you believe that sharing first aid skills can help build safer, more resilient communities? If so, the role of a Community First Aider could be a great fit for you.
While supporting events through regular patrols, you may provide anything from basic first aid advice to life\-saving care until emergency services arrive.
Your actions truly matter — whether responding to minor injuries or critical emergencies, your skills can bring calm and reassurance in urgent situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first aid support to individuals at local community events
- Assist at local events, focusing on community engagement and education
- Promote St John Ambulance through talks, demonstrations, and outreach
- Support fundraising efforts at events, talks, and roadshows
- Identify and maximise community\-based fundraising opportunities
- Contribute to the delivery of campaigns and programmes
- Be an active member of the Community First Aid Network
- Represent St John Ambulance positively, in line with our HEART values
- Ability to apply training to assess wellbeing and respond appropriately
- Strong verbal communication skills with diverse audiences
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and support others
- Strong relationship\-building and teamwork skills
- Excellent listening skills, compassion, and empathy
- Enthusiasm for St John Ambulance and its values
- Good level of physical fitness, including the ability to:
- Move around event environments
- Kneel and perform effective CPR (chest compressions) for at least two minutes
- Community First Aider training, including:
- Patient assessment and basic life support
- Emergency trauma care
- Recognising signs and symptoms in adults and children
- Escalating care and working with senior responders
- Safe use of interventions and effective patient communication
- Communication skills (speaking and listening)
- Demonstration and presentation skills
- Essential training in safeguarding, health \& safety, and GDPR
