We are looking for an experienced, passionate and caring Head Chef to join our team and take responsibility for the day\-to\-day running of our care home's kitchen.
This is an important role where food is much more than simply a meal. Mealtimes are an essential part of our residents' wellbeing, dignity, independence and quality of life. We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in creating fresh, nutritious, appetising and beautifully presented meals that residents enjoy.
As Head Chef, you will lead the kitchen team and oversee all aspects of food preparation, cooking, presentation and service, whilst maintaining excellent standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness. You will also work closely with our care and management teams to ensure residents' individual dietary requirements, preferences and nutritional needs are fully supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the day\-to\-day operation of the care home's kitchen.
- Lead, supervise and support the kitchen team.
- Plan and manage a varied and nutritious four\-week menu cycle.
- Prepare meals that reflect residents' preferences, cultural requirements and dietary needs.
- Provide appropriate meals for residents requiring special diets, allergen\-free meals, fortified diets and texture\-modified diets.
- Have a good understanding of IDDSI and safely prepare meals to the required texture levels.
- Maintain excellent food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards.
- Ensure allergens are correctly identified, recorded and managed, with appropriate controls to prevent cross\-contamination.
- Maintain HACCP and food safety management systems.
- Ensure food is stored, prepared, cooked, cooled, reheated and served safely.
- Manage food ordering, stock control, stock rotation and food waste.
- Monitor the catering budget and ensure good value without compromising food quality or residents' choice.
- Maintain accurate temperature, cleaning, allergen and food safety records.
- Complete regular kitchen audits and address any issues identified.
- Work closely with residents, relatives, care staff and the nursing team to respond to feedback and changing dietary requirements.
- Ensure every resident is recognised on their birthday with a home\-baked birthday cake, taking account of allergies and dietary requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well\-organised kitchen environment.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or senior catering professional.
- Has experience leading and managing a catering team.
- Has experience working within a care home, healthcare, hospital, school or similar regulated environment.
- Holds a relevant professional catering qualification, preferably Level 3 Professional Cookery or equivalent.
- Holds Level 3 Food Safety in Catering or equivalent.
- Has HACCP training and a strong understanding of food safety management systems.
- Has allergen awareness training and a good understanding of allergen legislation.
- Has experience preparing meals for a range of dietary requirements.
- Understands nutrition and the specific nutritional needs of older people.
- Has experience with modified\-texture diets, allergies, intolerances and other dietary restrictions.
- Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.
- Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Takes pride in producing high\-quality, nutritious and attractive food.
- Is caring, patient and respectful towards older people and those with additional needs.
- Understands the importance of dignity, choice, individuality and independence at mealtimes.

Salary
Up to £31,200 per annum (£15\.00 per hour)
