We are inviting applications for an exciting opportunity to step into a Band 6 Charge Nurse role. We have 1 permanent role available (33\.75 hours) and 1 maternity leave cover role available (33\.75 hours).

Job Summary

As a Charge Nurse, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of healthcare professionals, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment where every team member feels valued and empowered. Your role will involve line managing a team, providing guidance, support, and motivation to ensure the delivery of high\-quality care to our patients and their families.

The Charge Nurse has the ability to demonstrate specialised knowledge and expertise in palliative care, as well as a genuine commitment to enhancing the quality of life for patients facing serious illness. Your compassion and empathy will be essential as you support patients and their families through challenging times, providing comfort, reassurance, and emotional support.

In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will play a key role in promoting a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and learning within our hospice unit. Your leadership and dedication will be instrumental in driving positive change and ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care throughout their journey.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical Management: Oversee the delivery of specialist palliative care to patients, ensuring that care plans are developed and implemented effectively in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Monitor patient outcomes and quality indicators to drive continuous improvement in care delivery.

Line Management: Take responsibility for line managing a team of nursing staff, including recruitment, performance management, and staff development. Provide regular supervision, support, and guidance to ensure staff well\-being and professional growth.

Specialist Palliative Care Knowledge: There is senior charge nurse Monday – Friday. Therefore, the charge nurse is given the ability to work with staff, patients and families, demonstrating advanced knowledge and expertise in palliative care principles and practices. Provide clinical guidance and support to staff in managing complex symptoms, end\-of\-life care, and emotional support for patients and their families.

Patient Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their needs, preferences, and wishes are respected and incorporated into care plans. Foster a culture of patient\-centered care that prioritises dignity, autonomy, and holistic well\-being.

Collaboration and Communication: Foster effective communication and collaboration within the whole multidisciplinary team. Facilitate multidisciplinary meetings to ensure coordinated care planning and seamless transitions for patients.

Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, policies, and procedures governing hospice care. Participate and lead in quality assurance initiatives, audits, and clinical governance activities to maintain high standards of care and patient safety.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) *(Essential)*
Knowledge \& Experience
  • Significant post\-registration experience *(Essential)*

  • Experience of line managing and leading a team *(Essential)*
