We are not simply looking for a salesperson. We are looking for someone who can open doors, identify opportunities and turn established industry relationships into a sustainable sales pipeline.
The Role
Working closely with the company’s senior management team, you will be responsible for identifying and developing new commercial opportunities across the UK passenger rail market.
- Identifying potential customers, projects and upcoming opportunities for vehicle overhaul, refurbishment, maintenance and associated services.
- Developing relationships with Train Operating Companies (TOCs), Rolling Stock Companies (ROSCOs), fleet owners, leasing companies, manufacturers and other relevant organisations.
- Leveraging your existing industry network to generate introductions and commercial opportunities.
- Monitoring upcoming fleet programmes, overhaul requirements, refurbishment projects, maintenance contracts and procurement activity.
- Developing a qualified sales pipeline and converting opportunities into contracts.
- Representing the business at relevant industry meetings, events and customer engagements.
- Working with the operational and technical teams to understand customer requirements and develop commercially compelling propositions.
- Providing market intelligence and insight into competitors, customers, upcoming tenders and changes within the passenger rail sector.
- Supporting bid and tender activity where your customer relationships and market knowledge can add value.
- Acting as a credible ambassador for the company within the UK rail industry.
The ideal candidate will have significant previous experience within the UK passenger rail sector, ideally with a background in commercial, sales, business development, fleet, engineering, maintenance or procurement\-related roles.
Most importantly, you will bring:
- A demonstrable track record within passenger rail / rolling stock.
- An extensive and current network of senior industry contacts.
- Established relationships with decision\-makers and influencers within TOCs, ROSCOs, fleet owners, leasing companies and/or other key rail organisations.
- A strong understanding of the UK rolling stock market and its commercial dynamics.
- The credibility and confidence to engage directly with senior rail executives.
- A proven ability to identify opportunities and turn relationships into commercial results.
- Strong commercial judgement and an understanding of the rail procurement environment.
- Excellent communication, influencing and relationship\-building skills.
- The ability to operate independently and make things happen without requiring significant day\-to\-day management.
This role is particularly suited to someone who has spent years building relationships within the passenger rail industry.
You should be able to demonstrate that you have an active network of relevant contacts and can provide meaningful introductions to potential customers and decision\-makers.
We are interested in who you know, your understanding of the market, and your ability to create genuine commercial opportunities as much as your previous job title.
