Business Development and Operations Manager
Company: GI Healthcare Industries Limited
Location: Edinburgh (hybrid, with regular UK travel)
Type: Full\-time, permanent
Salary: Up to £42,000, made up of a base salary plus milestone\-linked bonuses
About us
Our vision is to make freshly cooked healthy meals easily accessible and affordable to anyone, anytime, anywhere, even beyond planet Earth.
GI Healthcare Industries is a UK deep tech startup building autonomous cooking technology for the places where feeding people is hardest, from extreme and remote environments here on Earth to future space missions. We are a small engineering\-led team in Edinburgh, moving from prototype to commercial deployment.
The role
A broad commercial and operations role for someone who likes talking to people and getting things done. You will work directly with the CEO, take over relationships we have already built, and keep the business side running while the engineering team focuses on the product.
What you will do
- Build and hold relationships with business support bodies, enterprise agencies and innovation networks, and spot the funding and business opportunities coming through them
- Write and submit grant and funding applications with input from the technical team
- Manage our existing stakeholder relationships, keeping partners, funders and supporters updated and engaged
- Reach out to new customers, build the relationship from first contact, set up commercial pilots and keep those relationships going afterwards
- Handle procurement of components and materials, from sourcing and quotes through to delivery
- Keep day to day operations, records and project coordination on track
You are a natural relationship builder. That matters more to us than anything on paper. You are comfortable making the call, walking into a room of strangers, and following up until something happens.
You also need a background in physics or engineering, either a degree or equivalent hands\-on experience. You will be talking about our technology every day, to customers, funders and partners, so you need to understand what you are selling.
Beyond that: clear writing and speaking, well organised across several threads at once, and happy in a small team where the job changes as you go.
We want proven experience of presenting, plus at least two of the following:
- Won a hackathon or a business or project pitching competition
- Successfully won grants for your own projects
- Published articles or research papers
- Strong social media marketing skills
A real seat at the table in an early stage deep tech company, full visibility of the business from funding to customers to supply chain, flexible hybrid working from our Edinburgh base, fully funded travel across the country to meet stakeholders and customers, pension and standard UK holiday, and room to grow the role as we grow.
Pay is a base salary plus bonuses tied to clear milestones, so what you deliver shows up in what you earn. We will agree those milestones with you if you are selected after the interview.
