The Royal Standard of England pub
Located just outside Beaconsfield (1 mile) and close to High Wycombe (2 miles), *The Royal Standard of England* is a historic independent pub serving seasonal, locally sourced food to a brasserie\-style standard, alongside exceptional local beers and a carefully curated wine list.
About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Manager who brings a naturally warm, welcoming, and generous style of hospitality — someone who makes every guest feel as though they are being looked after in their own home.
This is a hands\-on leadership role, combining business awareness with floor presence. You’ll lead from the front, hosting the room, supporting your team, and ensuring every service feels effortless, relaxed, and memorable.
We’re not looking for a cog in the machine — we’re looking for a game changer.
Someone with high agency who takes ownership, raises standards, and creates real impact.
If you demonstrate that you are a game changer, you will recieve approximately £5,000 per year from service charge on top of your salary. Tronc system.
Your Style
You bring the kind of energy often associated with warm hospitality or country hotel or gentlemen’s club service — open, confident, and genuinely engaging.
- You greet guests with a natural smile and make them feel instantly at ease
- You enjoy conversation, reading the room, and matching the vibe
- You create warmth, generosity, and a joyful atmosphere
- You bring positivity to the team and help keep service calm and happy
- You treat guests like family — remembering names, preferences, and the details that matter
- Lead the restaurant floor with charm, confidence, and a hands\-on approach
- Ensure every guest has a memorable experience from arrival to farewell
- Host the room during busy services — circulating, connecting, and solving issues before they arise
- Motivate and guide the team to deliver consistently high standards of friendly service
- Work closely with the kitchen to ensure smooth timing and natural flow of service
- A warm, natural communicator who loves making people feel welcome
- Calm, positive, and solution\-focused under pressure
- Confident hosting a room and building rapport with guests
- Genuine passion for food, drink, and hospitality
- Ability to set the tone for the team — relaxed yet professional
- Live\-in accommodation available (private bathroom, £125 per week)
- Alternatively, own transport is recommended for commuting
- Opportunity to grow within a respected, independent business
We strongly encourage you to come and experience the pub in person — it’s the best way to understand what we’re about.
