The Assistant Materials Manager will assist the materials manager in the management the Receipts and Distribution (R\&D) team as well as the Materials Management Teams at all Trust hospital sites to ensure Suppliers of products to the Trust meet the expected delivery performance required by the Trust to meet its operational requirements.

The Assistant Materials Manager will be required to liaise with, and / or, deputise for the Materials Manager, to work with the senior managers of Procurement Department and as required coordinate with service managers and clinicians to ensure the provision of a high quality of Materials Management service to users.

The Assistant Materials Manager will line manage Materials Supervisors who in turn manage the materials teams. Line management includes but is not limited to

Assist in the recruitment process.

Induction and training of staff.

Responsible for the disciplinary, grievances, performance issues and staff sickness procedures for the Materials Supervisors, Materials Management officers and Receipts \& Distribution staff over both sites.

Undertakes annual performance appraisal and succession planning for the. Receipts \& Distribution (R\&D) and Materials Management Teams.

Covering the Material Supervisors over both sites.

Managing annual leave for the material supervisors, Material Management officers and Receipts \&

Distribution staff over both sites.

The Assistant Materials Management Manager will play a supporting and sometimes leading role in assisting the Head of Procurement through the effective management of materials inventory to make effective use of the Trust’s finances.

The post will line manager the stores managers and their teams. The Assistant Materials Manager will also

Participate in CPEG meetings and events.

Cover the Materials Manager in her absence including CPEG queries.

Complete escalation forms, demand managed stock, allocate demand managed stock around the whole trust based on usage for both sites.

As required check stock levels of regularly used stock items, place replenishment orders, expedite orders and restock storerooms.

When required use discretion to place urgent orders for critical items of stock for with a value of up to £5,000\.

Financial recharging.

Act as central contact for all wards and clinics regarding stock issues, complaints and act as first contact.

The Assistant Materials Manager will support the development process and systems development to prepare regular reports on the services delivered and performance of the Department including but not exclusively the following:

Stock holding levels by Requisition Point.

Supplier performance to agreed KPI’S.

Levels of excess slow moving and obsolete items.

Usage quantity and value.

Planned \& Potential improvements

The Assistant Materials Manager is responsible for assisting with the co\-ordination of training for all staff within the R\&D and Materials Management Team. The postholder will:

Promote professional standards and attitudes throughout the Trust’s Finance and Procurement Directorate.

Develop constructive links with professional bodies to fulfil the professional Supply Chain Management development needs for the Trust.

Ensure the appropriate training of non\-Finance and Procurement Managers within the Trust in the requirements of Supply and Inventory Management as appropriate.

The Assistant Materials Manager will be expected to take part, and in some instance lead, on several NHS modernisation initiatives.
