Assistant Manager – Sky Blue Tavern

Job Purpose
The Assistant Manager plays a key role in supporting the day\-to\-day operations of Sky Blue Tavern, ensuring excellent customer service, effective team leadership, and the successful delivery of events and matchday operations. The successful candidate will help drive sales, maintain high standards throughout the venue, and create a welcoming atmosphere for customers, particularly during busy sporting events and special occasions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the General Manager in the day\-to\-day running of the venue.
- Ensure the pub is opened, operated, and closed in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and customer service.
- Manage stock levels, assist with ordering, stocktakes, and delivery checks.
- Ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and company policies.
- Take responsibility for the venue in the absence of the General Manager.
- Lead, motivate, and support bar and floor staff during shifts.
- Assist with recruitment, training, onboarding, and staff development.
- Conduct team briefings and communicate daily objectives, promotions, and event requirements.
- Manage staffing levels to meet business demands, particularly during matchdays and events.
- Support performance management and encourage a positive team culture.
- Plan, organise, and deliver successful events, including live music, entertainment nights, themed events, and private functions.
- Coordinate and oversee matchday operations to ensure excellent customer experience during sporting fixtures.
- Manage staffing, stock levels, and customer flow during busy matchday periods.
- Promote upcoming events and matchday offers to maximise attendance and revenue.
- Liaise with suppliers, entertainers, and external partners where required.
- Ensure events are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with company standards.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and ensure all guests receive a positive experience.
- Resolve customer complaints and issues professionally and efficiently.
- Build strong relationships with regular customers and support community engagement.
- Create a welcoming atmosphere that encourages repeat business.
- Support the achievement of sales, profit, and performance targets.
- Manage cash handling procedures, banking, and till reconciliations.
- Monitor labour costs and scheduling to maximise operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales through events, promotions, and matchday activities.
- Ensure responsible alcohol retailing practices are followed at all times.
- Maintain health and safety standards throughout the venue.
- Ensure all staff comply with food hygiene and licensing requirements where applicable.
- Complete operational and compliance documentation accurately and on time.
- Previous supervisory or management experience within hospitality, pubs, bars, or restaurants.
- Experience managing busy trading periods, events, or sports\-led venues is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Excellent customer service and conflict\-resolution abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast\-paced environment.
- Knowledge of licensing legislation and health and safety requirements.
- Personal Licence holder preferred but not essential.
- Enthusiastic, professional, and customer\-focused.
