Assistant Business Development Manager

About the Role
We are looking for a commercially driven and highly organised Assistant Business Development Manager to support the growth and development of our marketplace and supplier operations. This is a hands\-on role focused on identifying profitable product opportunities, building strong supplier relationships, managing listings and marketplace performance, and leading a small team.
Key Responsibilities:
Product \& Commercial Development
- Identify new product opportunities based on market demand, profitability, trends, and seasonality.
- Conduct commercial negotiations with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and favourable trading terms.
- Develop product bundles and promotional opportunities to maximise sales and margin performance.
- Source and onboard new suppliers.
- Build and maintain strong long\-term supplier relationships.
- Manage supplier performance, communication, and operational standards.
- Create, optimise, and manage product listings across marketplace platforms.
- Ensure listings are commercially competitive and accurate.
- Support the management and growth of various marketplace operations and performance.
- Manage and support a small team, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and day\-to\-day leadership.
- Help drive a positive, proactive, and commercially focused team culture.
- Oversee customer service standards delivered by suppliers.
- Ensure customer issues are resolved promptly and professionally by the relevant suppliers
- Liaise closely with internal teams to coordinate operational activities and improve processes.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Experience in eCommerce, marketplaces, business development, buying, or account management.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to analyse product opportunities, trends, and profitability.
- Experience managing supplier relationships and operational processes.
- Leadership or team management experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proactive, ambitious, and results\-driven mindset.
This is a full\-time position (37\.5 hours per week) with flexible start and finish times — begin your day between 8:00am and 9:30am, and finish between 4:00pm and 5:30pm, depending on your preference. Lunch breaks can be taken as either 30 minutes or 1 hour.
You’ll be based full\-time at our modern office near York (YO60 6PG). Due to the location, access to your own transport is essential.
