Due to continued growth, Hardwood Logs \& Supplies is looking for an experienced, organised and proactive Accounts \& Office Manager to join our team at Holly Grange Farm in Lea, near Matlock.
This is an important and varied position at the heart of our day\-to\-day business, combining accounts and financial administration with customer service, order processing and general office management.
You will take responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records through Sage, while also being a key point of contact for our customers — handling telephone enquiries and orders, processing website orders and helping coordinate collections and deliveries.
We are a busy, hands\-on local business, so we’re looking for somebody who is comfortable taking ownership of their responsibilities, managing their own workload and working closely with the rest of the team.
Key responsibilities
- Day\-to\-day accounts using Sage
- Maintaining purchase and sales ledgers
- Processing supplier invoices and payments
- Raising and processing customer invoices
- Banking and bank reconciliations
- VAT preparation and administration
- Credit control and management of customer accounts
- Allocating incoming customer payments
- Answering telephone calls and dealing with customer enquiries
- Taking and processing telephone orders
- Managing and processing website orders
- Responding to customer emails and online enquiries
- Maintaining accurate customer and order records
- Booking and coordinating customer collections and deliveries
- Handling order amendments and customer queries
- Liaising with our external accountant
- General office administration and record keeping
- Supporting the shop team when required
- Working closely with the wider team to help keep the business running smoothly
We are looking for someone with proven practical accounts experience who is confident managing the day\-to\-day financial administration of a busy business.
Experience using Sage is highly desirable, along with a good working knowledge of purchase and sales ledgers, invoicing, banking, VAT and credit control.
You should be:
- Organised, accurate and detail\-focused

- Professional and confident when dealing with customers by telephone and email
- Comfortable processing orders and working with online systems
- Proactive, dependable and willing to take ownership of your responsibilities
- Friendly, approachable and a genuine team player
We are a close\-working team where everyone helps each other, so we’re looking for somebody with a positive attitude who communicates well, gets on with people and is willing to support colleagues when required.
An AAT qualification or other relevant accounting qualification would be advantageous, but practical experience, ability and the right attitude are more important to us than qualifications alone.
Working hours
One of the benefits of the position is our seasonal working pattern, with considerably shorter weekday hours during the summer.
Weekdays
1 April – 31 August:
9:00am – 3:00pm
1 September – 31 March:
9:00am – 5:00pm
Saturdays
1 April – 30 September:
9:00am – 12:00pm
1 October – 31 March:
9:00am – 4:00pm
Saturdays are shared between three members of the team and are currently approximately 1 Saturday in 3.
When a Saturday is worked, a weekday is taken off, maintaining a five\-day working week.
