1:1 Support Assistant

We are currently seeking a passionate 1:1 Support Assistant to work with pupils in the Dukinfield area of Tameside, who need additional support within a mainstream primary school setting.
Job Type: Full-time, 8.30am-3.30pm (long-term opportunity)

A caring, welcoming primary school in the SK16 area are currently looking for the support of a committed, skilled individual with a calm approach for the role of 1:1 Support Assistant. This is to provide support to a child working below age related expectations and accessing a curriculum from a different phase of learning. They require learning that is linked to continuous provision and access activities in short bursts. The child can often present challenging behaviours within the classroom and is reluctant to take part in learning. The school require the additional support in September, with an opportunity for a long-term position for the ideal candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create positive relationships with pupils with a range of special educational needs and abilities and encourage positive behaviour choices.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Class Teacher, SENCO and external agencies to implement and adapt learning strategies, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Provide support for Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
- Implement and lead sensory breaks within the school day.
- Encourage learning opportunities within continuous provision-based learning, ensuring the child’s targets are being met.
- Experience working with SEND children, in a classroom or small group setting, on a 1:1 basis
- TeamTeach trained or equivalent to ensure safe strategies are used for dysregulated behaviour
- Knowledge of continuous provision and the EYFS curriculum
- A calm, caring and consistent approach, with excellent communication skills.
- Resilience and adaptability to meet children’s changing needs throughout the school day.
- A valid DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
