The Hill Street Youth and Community Centre (HSC) is going through an exciting stage of its development. We have secured funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to establish a 4 year programme of active, fun, creative and inclusive activities for young people in Rugby which will be called Rugby:THRIVE.

5 weekly sessions will take place from 4\-6 pm Monday to Friday inclusive, 48 weeks per year. They will include Art and Craft, Multi Sports and Performing Arts workshops and 2 Youth clubs: Hype for 5\-10 year olds and Choices for 11\-16 year olds.

Rugby:THRIVE aims to provide positive opportunities for local children and young people to get active, develop confidence and new skills and thrive within their community.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and flexible colleague to join our small permanent Hill Street team. The role has two central purposes: the first will be to attend and actively participate in all THRIVE weekly sessions and all other child or young person HSC programmes. To support the sessional leaders who will deliver all children and young people programmes; the second element will be to carry out selected administrative tasks and duties, under the guidance and leadership of our Charity Engagement and Acting Centre Manager, which will benefit the HSC community as a whole.

1\. Youth Support Worker

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the tutors/coaches as directed during sessions.

  • Help set up and clear away activitiy equipment and resources ensuring equipment spaces are used safely.

  • Provide support to all child and young people participanting in all activities.

  • Help create a safe, positive, welcoming and inclusive environment at all times

  • Help to manage and encourage participation, teamwork and positive behaviour.

  • Contribute ideas for new activities and ways of engaging children and young people.

  • Promote equality, inclusion and respect; challenge inappropriate or discriminatory behaviour.

  • Follow HSC Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and procedures at all times.

  • Follow risk assessments, health and safety procedures and agreed working practices.

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when working with children and young people.

  • Carry out any data recording and small administrative tasks as required by the session lead which will contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of all child and young people programmes.

  • Record activities and outcomes to help HSC demonstrate the impact of Rugby:THRIVE and all other child and young people programmes.

  • Represent HSC in a positive, helpful and friendly manner to parents, carers and families.

  • Help promote all child and young people programme activities within the local community

  • Work positively to promote HSC and the THRIVE programme within schools, community organisations and other partners where required/directed.
Person specification
  • Is enthusiastic, reliable and approachable.

  • Previous experience of working with children and/or young people, possibly in a volunteer capacity.

  • Enjoys working as part of a team.

  • A youth work, childcare, teaching,sports coaching, first aid or other relevant qualification, (eg NVQ) or \-

  • Willingto undertake training and development opportunities as required.

  • Willing to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
The applicant must provide evidence of relevant qualifications and checks upon request.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and young people but does not necessarily have the qualifications or experience required to lead a session independently.

2\. Administrative Support

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the Charity Engagement and Acting Centre Manager with general administrative tasks includig data capture and reporting.

  • Support the office in its daily administrative processes as directed by the line manager.

  • Carry out tasks related to the holiday HAF programme.

  • Support and create the Centre’ s Social Media content \- under the guidance of the Chair of Trustees initially.

  • Promote the Centre and all relevant activities through social media outlets.
Person Specification
  • Enthusiastic, reliable and approachable.

  • Good verbal and written skills.

  • Good working knowledge of computers, in particular, Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Familiar with social media, namely Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.

  • Works well with others to reach a common goal, and is good at sharing information and supporting colleagues.

  • Ability to take ownership of work and use initiative to deliver, not afraid to ask for help.

  • Excellent time management and meeting deadlines.
