As a Year in Industry \- Finance , You'll join our Year in Industry Placement Programme and gain hands\-on experience while contributing to some of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects. From day one, you'll take on real responsibility, develop technical and professional skills, and work alongside experienced colleagues who will support your growth. You'll also be part of a supportive early careers community, building valuable industry experience and developing the knowledge and skills needed for your future career.
In this role, you'll join one of our Enabling Functions teams, based out of our Maxim Office.
Please note that this role may require travel to various locations, which means you may occasionally need to work and stay away from home. Flexibility is essential, as assignments can vary based on project needs. All reasonable travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy. Before joining Balfour Beatty, you must hold a full UK driver's license.
What you'll be doing
As a Year in Industry \- Finance , you'll play an active role in supporting financial planning, analysis, and reporting activities across the business. Working alongside experienced finance professionals and operational teams, you'll gain valuable industry experience while developing your understanding of financial performance, commercial decision\-making, project controls, and business operations.
During your placement, you'll take on meaningful responsibilities that provide first\-hand experience of how finance supports major infrastructure projects and wider business performance. You'll develop your technical, analytical, and stakeholder management skills while gaining exposure to both operational and strategic finance activities.
You’ll get exposure to:
- Financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting activities across projects and business areas
- Analysing costs, revenues, and profitability to support business decision\-making
- Working with project teams to understand financial performance, risks, and opportunities
- Supporting month\-end processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting activities
We are looking for students who are enrolled on a university degree programme that includes a placement year, with a genuine interest in our industry.
To be eligible, you'll need to:
- Be studying towards a degree in Finance or relevant field
- Available to complete a placement lasting 9\-12 months, with start dates between June and September, depending on your university requirements.
- Are curious, proactive and motivated to develop professionally.
- Enjoy solving problems and finding practical solutions.
- Work well with others and build positive relationships.
- Communicate clearly and confidently with different people.
- Take ownership, adapt to challenges and are committed to achieving results.
- Be part of a supportive early careers network, with structured training and coaching from experienced industry professionals.
- Take part in unique development experiences, connect with placement students from across the business, and celebrate your achievements at our end\-of\-programme Early Careers Showcase.
- There may be an opportunity for successful placement students to be considered for our Graduate Programme, subject to business needs and availability.
