Yard Operative (Temp to Perm) – Reading
£13.50 – £14.00 per hour
Our client, a well-established business based in Reading, is currently recruiting for a Yard Operative to join their team on a temporary to permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable and hardworking individual with a valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence who is looking for long-term career prospects within a growing company.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday only whilst on the temporary contract
Shifts will be either:
7:00am – 4:30pm
or 7:30am – 5:00pm
depending on business needs
Once permanent, you will work 2 Saturdays per month on a rotating 2 on / 2 off basis
Duties Include
Assisting customers with selecting and loading building materials while providing excellent customer service and product advice
Picking and packing stock for company deliveries
Loading company vehicles accurately and safely
Unloading supplier vehicles, checking goods in, and putting stock away
Operating a mixed fleet of diesel and electric FLTs, including multi-directional and Teletruck forklifts, plus loading shovel equipment (full training provided where required)
Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across the yard and warehouse
Carrying out daily forklift and plant checks, with weekly cleaning duties
Supporting wider business operations and assisting other teams when needed
Playing an active role in supporting the company’s continued growth
Candidate Requirements
Valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence essential
Full UK Driving Licence essential
Previous yard, warehouse, or builders merchant experience preferred
Strong work ethic and team player attitude
Good communication and customer service skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment safely and efficiently
