About the role
Nationwide Energy Consultants is looking for a reliable and organised Workplace Support Worker to work alongside a blind colleague who is our Field Sales Appointments Coordinator.
He works with customers, commercial partners and our field sales team to identify opportunities, book appointments and coordinate activity across the UK.
Your role is to help him access information and use parts of our systems that do not work well with his screen reader. You will work alongside him throughout your working hours and provide help when it is needed.
He will lead customer conversations, make decisions and direct your work. This is an accessibility support role, with no responsibility for selling or managing customers.
NEC mainly works with pubs and hospitality businesses, providing energy, broadband, EPOS, card machines and insurance referrals.
What you will do
Help him use parts of Enable CRM, websites and other systems that are not accessible.
Read and explain information that his screen reader cannot access.
Check consultants’ diaries and appointment availability.
Listen alongside him during customer calls, find information and discreetly relay relevant facts.
Upload leads and update records under his direction.
Check names, spellings and other important information, and flag anything missing or inconsistent.
Copy information accurately between documents and systems.
Read and describe utility bills, scanned forms, photographs, spreadsheets and reports.
Help with research, maps and geographical information.
Take notes and explain visual information during meetings and training.
Help him find his way around the workplace when needed.
Keep customer and colleague information confidential.
What you will need
Competent computer skills, including basic Microsoft Office, email and websites.
Clear communication and good listening skills.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Patience, reliability and an organised approach.
The ability to work closely with a colleague, follow his direction and ask questions when something is unclear.
A willingness to learn new systems and ways of working.
Previous support work or office experience would be helpful but is not essential. Experience supporting someone with a visual impairment or using JAWS would also be useful.
Training
We will provide training on our systems and processes. You will work with our colleague to learn how he prefers to receive information and where he needs assistance.
Funding and workplace
The role is funded through DWP Access to Work. The contract lasts for the duration of that funding, which is assessed each year.
A guide dog will be present in the office. You must be comfortable working alongside a guide dog.
