Workforce Wellbeing and Attendance Lead
Are you passionate about creating healthier workplaces and helping people remain well, supported and able to thrive at work?
We are looking for an engaging and experienced Workforce Wellbeing and Attendance Lead to help shape and deliver our approach to colleague wellbeing and sustainable attendance across Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Wellbeing and attendance management are key priorities for the Trust. We recognise that a healthy and supported workforce is fundamental to providing exceptional patient care. This role will bring together preventative wellbeing support, workforce intelligence and effective attendance improvement, helping us to provide earlier and more coordinated support to colleagues and managers.
You will lead the development and delivery of an inclusive and evidence\-based wellbeing offer while supporting the Trust’s approach to improving attendance and reducing sickness absence. Working closely with managers, Human Resources, Occupational Health, Physiotherapy and other partners, you will identify emerging themes, target support where it can have the greatest impact and strengthen pathways that support safe and sustainable attendance.
This is a varied and influential role in which you will help develop and deliver the Trust’s approach to workforce wellbeing and attendance improvement. You will use sickness absence, workforce and wellbeing information to identify trends, priorities and opportunities for prevention and early intervention. Working in partnership with managers, HR, Occupational Health and other professional services, you will develop practical and targeted responses, strengthen attendance practice, and support managers through guidance, resources, workshops and coaching.
You will provide leadership for the Trust’s wellbeing services, including the Health and Wellbeing Hub and the Health Improvement Team. You will ensure that services and communications are inclusive, accessible and responsive to colleague needs, while evaluating their reach, effectiveness and impact. You will manage relevant resources, contracts and funding, and build effective relationships across the Trust, Joined Up Care Derbyshire and external partner organisations to deliver measurable improvements in colleague wellbeing and attendance.
You will be joining an organisation with an established and varied wellbeing offer. At its heart is our purpose\-built Health and Wellbeing Hub, an on\-site facility designed to support colleagues’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. The Hub includes a fully equipped gym, studios for groups and classes, counselling rooms, and spaces for individual or group reflection following difficult or traumatic experiences.
The wider offer includes one\-to\-one counselling provided through Ashgate Hospice, an Employee Assistance Programme, staff physiotherapy, Occupational Health support, workplace health checks, wellbeing workshops, menopause support, peer psychological support and resources to help colleagues manage their own wellbeing. Colleagues can also access a programme of physical activity, education and wellbeing sessions through the Joined Up Care Derbyshire wellbeing timetable.
The Trust has a network of Wellbeing Champions and Mental Health First Aiders who promote wellbeing conversations and help colleagues find appropriate support. The wellbeing team also works directly with departments and services, helping to ensure that support reaches colleagues across the main hospital site, community locations and different workforce groups.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to build on those foundations, strengthen the relationship between wellbeing and attendance, and ensure that the Trust’s resources are targeted where they can make the greatest difference.
You will bring credible experience of attendance management, workforce wellbeing or a closely related area, ideally gained within the NHS or another large and complex organisation. You will have experience of developing or supporting approaches that improve attendance and reduce sickness absence, implementing health and wellbeing initiatives, and using workforce information to identify trends and inform action. You will understand the importance of prevention, early intervention and sustainable returns to work, and be able to work effectively with managers, HR, Occupational Health and other professional services.
You will combine strong analytical, project management and organisational skills with an inclusive, practical and person\-centred approach. An effective communicator and influencer, you will be confident working with colleagues at all levels, leading improvement projects and handling sensitive and complex matters with compassion, professionalism and appropriate confidentiality. You will be able to turn evidence into practical interventions, evaluate their impact and build trusted relationships across organisational boundaries. A master’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience and knowledge, in workforce health and wellbeing or a related field is required. Experience of line management and developing business plans would be advantageous
