The Health \& Fitness Club sits on the edge of the Wellington College estate, benefiting from its vibrant community and unique setting.
You will be part of an energetic and professional team at the Wellington Health \& Fitness Club, delivering high\-quality service to members, pupils, and staff. You will work within a busy and rewarding environment where service standards, teamwork, and professional development are all valued.
Wellington Health \& Fitness Club is looking for a caring, alert and encouraging Water Helper to join its Swim School. Working 7 hours per week for 36 weeks of the year, you will support Early Years Stage 1 and 2 swimming lessons, helping young children feel secure, included and ready to take their next steps in the water.
Working closely with Level 2 Swimming Teachers, you will provide attentive in\-water support, follow the direction and plan of each lesson, and encourage children in a positive, age\-appropriate way. Your contribution will help each child participate with growing confidence, enjoyment and trust, while ensuring the pool remains a calm and purposeful learning environment. You will also help prepare and put away equipment, assist with registers, and support the smooth start and finish of lessons.
Pupil welfare is fundamental to this role. You will remain vigilant throughout lessons, use sound judgement when circumstances change, and communicate concerns promptly to the Swimming Teacher or appropriate manager. You will work in line with established safeguarding, health and safety, pool operating and emergency procedures, using equipment responsibly and reporting any faults or hazards without delay. First aid may be provided where required and within the scope of your current training.
As part of a busy, customer\-focused Club, you will offer a warm and professional welcome to children, parents, members and visitors. You will contribute to a clean, well\-presented environment and work collaboratively with colleagues across the Swim School and wider Club, including when additional support is needed.
The successful candidate will be a confident swimmer with a genuine enthusiasm for helping children develop early water skills. You will communicate clearly and sensitively, build positive professional relationships, and remain calm and effective in a pool\-based setting. Experience in leisure, health and fitness or another customer\-facing environment will be valuable, as will an understanding of safe working practices in an educational setting. Pool\-related qualifications, including the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification or ASA water helper and swimming teaching qualifications, are welcomed, and you will maintain the training required for the role.
Wellington Health \& Fitness Club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Applicants must undergo child protection screening including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. The role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974\. You must have the right to work in the UK.
