Job Title: Waste Operative
Location: East Midlands Designer Outlet
Hours: 20 hours per week, variable shift pattern
Rate of Pay: £13\.00
Summary \& Purpose of the Role:
The main purpose of the role is to support and assist the responsible manager to maintain a safe working and clean environment, to collect, transport \& process all waste to the correct recycling streams in line with UK waste legislation and to ensure that the company standards and policies are followed and maintained at all times.
Responsibilities:
The key responsibility would be to clear waste from across the site and to maintain the cleanliness \& tidiness in all service areas, to a very high standard by performing the following duties:
- Collect waste and recyclable materials from retail units, food outlets and offices.
- Transport waste safely to designated waste management and recycling areas.
- Separate waste streams correctly, including general waste, cardboard, plastics, glass, and food waste.
- Operate waste handling equipment such as compactors and balers in accordance with training and safety procedures.
- Keep waste compounds, loading bays, and recycling areas clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
- Monitor waste storage areas and report any issues, spillages, or equipment faults.
- Ensure compliance with environmental policies and waste management regulations.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Respond promptly to waste\-related incidents and maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the centre.
- Complete required records, inspections, and waste management documentation.
Essential:
- Good understanding of health and safety practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Physically fit and capable of manual handling duties.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible shifts.
- Previous experience in waste management, facilities management, cleaning, or environmental services.
- Experience operating waste compactors, balers, or similar equipment.
- Knowledge of recycling and sustainability practices.
- Manual handling or health and safety training certificates.
