The Role
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, security, and emotional well\-being of the children during the night. You’ll remain awake and alert throughout the shift, providing support as needed and responding to any incidents calmly and professionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and safeguard the welfare of the children overnight
- Carry out regular welfare checks and ensure the home remains safe and secure
- Offer emotional reassurance and support if a child wakes or becomes distressed
- Complete nightly logs and reports accurately
- Support morning routines and handover to day staff
- Light domestic duties (laundry, tidying communal areas, preparing breakfast)
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in residential or similar care settings
- A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach
- Excellent communication and observation skills
- Flexibility to work night shifts on a rota basis, including weekends
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles
- A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it)
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
