A reliable Waking Night Support worker / Carer for disabled teenager needed asap.
You would join a team around a friendly 19 year year old with epilepsy, profound autism, a movement disorder and additional health needs .
The young person lives at home with his family and friendly dog.
Weekly hours
We are looking for someone to take on 2 regular waking nights (13hr each night shift \- so a minimum total of 23 hours). There will be the need for covering occasionally an extra night (Friday).
More weekly hours are possible but not less hours –the nights to cover are ideally consecutive nights. These are strictly waking nights.
About the position:
The young man needs someone to spot seizures or other health emergencies and then call the parents.
The monitoring is with video monitor and heart rate monitor and regular in person checks.
These nights can be quite active \- as if he has a seizure he might have to be accompanied via ambulance to A\&E.
All training is during the day first through shadowing in the first month.
But we would also be able to train you in personal care, catheterisation, medication administration, peristeen and positive behaviour support and other essential skills.
You will also be trained by members of the experienced team in the principles of ABA \- a behaviour therapy. You will need to attend some of the team meetings too.
His environment will need to be kept clean and tidy (it is not a cleaner position but to ensure that his environment stays tidy, safe and fit for purpose). You will help with his laundry too.
It is not a summer job but we hope to find someone who has specific interest in a role like this and can commit for a minimum of 12 months or more as the young person does need consistency and continuity.
One would need to be strong and fit to support and keep safe someone with a movement disorder.
You would often work together with other team members at the beginning or end of your shift (eg for bath time).
Day shifts might available too on occasion if you are interested.
There will be a general schedule but you will still need to be a bit flexible and sometime cover for other people in the team.
About you:
This position will suit someone who ideally has already worked with young autistic and disabled adults and has already experience and even more important real interest.
We would prefer someone who is or planning to study a health related field or is already working in the field.
You should:
- Commit for minimum a year.
- Preferably be self\-employed.
- Invoice at the end of every month
- Able to work legally in the UK
- Based within commuting distance to north London
- Be a non Smoker and non Vaper.
- Be comfortable with dogs.
- Good command of the English language.
- Strong and fit to be able to support a growing teenager who has a movement disorder.
Lateron we will need relevant references and a copy of your enhanced DBS.
Salary Offered: £16 per hour or £208 per 13 hour night shift. This rate will increase to £17 after training.
Starting Date: for initial daytime training Asap.
