London PrimeVets is a modern, independent small animal practice in the heart of Canada Water. We are passionate about providing exceptional veterinary care and outstanding customer service, and we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) to join our team on a weekend\-only basis.
This is a varied role combining veterinary reception and client care with hands\-on patient care and clinical support. The successful candidate will have previous experience working in a veterinary practice, be confident handling cats and dogs, and enjoy supporting both clients and the clinical team.
Working Hours
- Saturday and Sunday
- 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- 16 hours per week
- Permanent, part\-time position
- £13\.50–£15\.00 per hour, depending on experience
Reception \& Client Care
- Welcome clients and their pets in a friendly, professional and compassionate manner.
- Answer telephone calls, respond to enquiries and emails, and book appointments.
- Manage the appointment diary and assist with the smooth running of the reception area.
- Process payments and maintain accurate client and patient records.
- Provide excellent customer service and communicate professionally with clients regarding their pets and appointments.
- Safely and confidently handle and restrain dogs and cats during examinations and procedures.
- Assist veterinary surgeons and nurses with patient care and clinical support.
- Help with the care of hospitalised patients, including feeding, walking, cleaning and general observation.
- Prepare consultation rooms and treatment areas for patients.
- Provide calm and compassionate care to nervous, sick or recovering animals.
- Help with taking blood samples.
- Assist with laboratory work and the preparation and processing of samples.
- Assist with cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining clinical areas and equipment.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of theatre and treatment areas.
- Sterilise instruments and equipment in accordance with practice protocols.
- Ensure clinical areas, kennels and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
- Restock clinical supplies and assist with stock management.
- Support the veterinary surgeons, nurses and wider team with the smooth day\-to\-day running of the practice.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control.
- Work collaboratively with the whole team and be willing to get involved in all aspects of practice life.
Previous experience working in a veterinary practice is essential for this role.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience working in a veterinary practice, ideally in a VCA, patient care assistant, veterinary receptionist or similar role.
- Is confident handling both dogs and cats.
- Is comfortable working across both reception and patient care duties.
- Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Is compassionate, reliable and professional.
- Is confident dealing with clients and their pets.
- Is organised, practical and willing to get involved in a variety of tasks.
- Has a genuine passion for animal welfare and providing excellent patient care.
- Works well as part of a team and is happy to support colleagues when needed.
- £13\.50–£15\.00 per hour, depending on experience.
- Permanent, part\-time weekend position.
- Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
