Role Purpose

The Transport Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the day\-to\-day transport operation and providing direct support and supervision to the driver team to ensure deliveries and collections are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with customer and business requirements.

The role includes coordinating daily routes, monitoring driver progress, responding to operational issues, maintaining accurate transport records and supporting standards relating to attendance, timekeeping, conduct and performance.

This is a hands\-on operational role and is not solely office\-based. The Transport Supervisor is expected to undertake delivery and collection driving duties where required to maintain service levels, including covering driver holidays, sickness, other absence and periods of increased operational demand.

The role requires strong organisation, clear communication, good judgement and the ability to remain calm and practical when transport plans change during the working day.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Transport Coordination

  • Coordinate daily delivery and collection routes in line with customer and operational requirements.

  • Ensure drivers understand their assigned routes, duties, timings and any specific customer requirements.

  • Monitor driver and route progress throughout the working day.

  • Identify delays, missed collections, access issues or other operational concerns and take appropriate action.

  • Adjust routes or priorities where reasonably required to maintain service levels.

  • Liaise with Operations, Production and Customer Services where transport issues may affect customers or site activity.

  • Communicate significant delays, staffing concerns, vehicle issues or service failures promptly to the relevant manager.

  • Ensure important transport information is handed over clearly between colleagues, shifts or departments.
Driver Supervision
  • Provide day\-to\-day supervision, direction and support to the driver team.

  • Ensure drivers report for work on time, appropriately prepared and ready to complete their assigned duties.

  • Monitor attendance, timekeeping, conduct and general working standards.

  • Provide clear instructions and follow up where agreed actions or standards are not being met.

  • Address routine operational and conduct matters promptly, fairly and professionally.

  • Escalate repeated, serious or formal concerns to the appropriate manager and HR where required.

  • Reinforce company expectations relating to customer service, safe working practices and professional behaviour.

  • Support new drivers with routes, operational procedures, customer requirements and site expectations.

  • Promote consistent standards across the transport team.
Driver Cover and Driving Duties
  • Carry out delivery and collection driving duties as a normal requirement of the role when operationally necessary.

  • Provide driver cover during annual leave, sickness and other absence.

  • Undertake routes at short notice where reasonably required to maintain customer service.

  • Complete delivery and collection duties safely, efficiently and professionally.

  • Follow company procedures relating to vehicle checks, load security, deliveries, collections and customer premises.

  • Complete all required delivery notes, collection records, route documentation and vehicle records.

  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, incidents, customer concerns or operational issues promptly.

  • Balance driving cover with supervisory and administrative responsibilities according to operational priorities.
Transport Administration and Records
  • Complete and maintain transport records accurately and within required timescales.

  • Review route sheets, delivery notes, collection records and other transport documentation.

  • Record delays, missed collections, route changes and other significant operational events.

  • Maintain appropriate records relating to driver attendance, timekeeping and daily activity.

  • Ensure relevant information is passed promptly to Customer Services, Operations, Production or management.

  • Support investigations or reviews by providing accurate transport information and records where required.

  • Carry out general transport administration to support the efficient running of the department.
Customer Service
  • Promote high standards of customer service throughout the driver team.

  • Ensure drivers represent CanDo Laundry Services professionally at customer premises.

  • Respond appropriately to routine customer queries relating to deliveries or collections.

  • Escalate complaints, service issues or recurring customer concerns promptly.

  • Support the resolution of missed deliveries, missed collections and other service failures.

  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with customer contacts.
Health, Safety and Compliance
  • Promote safe working practices throughout the transport operation.

  • Ensure drivers complete required vehicle checks and report defects promptly.

  • Reinforce requirements relating to safe driving, manual handling, PPE, vehicle security and customer\-site safety.

  • Report and escalate accidents, incidents, near misses and health and safety concerns.

  • Ensure transport activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures and applicable legal requirements.

  • Challenge unsafe working practices and escalate concerns where necessary.

  • Maintain a clean, organised and professional transport working environment.
Communication and Teamwork
  • Act as a key day\-to\-day point of contact for the driver team.

  • Communicate instructions and operational changes clearly and professionally.

  • Provide timely updates to management regarding delays, staffing issues, customer concerns or other operational risks.

  • Work closely with Operations, Production, Customer Services and other departments to resolve transport issues.

  • Maintain confidentiality when handling employee, customer and business information.

  • Support a respectful and cooperative working environment.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Previous experience within transport, logistics, distribution, driving or operational coordination.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Appropriate licence entitlement for any vehicles the postholder is required to drive.

  • Willingness and ability to carry out delivery and collection driving duties as part of the role.

  • Willingness to provide driver cover for holidays, sickness and other operational requirements.

  • Good organisational and planning skills.

  • Confident communicator with the ability to give clear instructions and follow up on actions.

  • Ability to monitor daily activity and identify when intervention or escalation is required.

  • Able to remain calm and make practical decisions when routes, staffing or priorities change.

  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

  • Reliable, punctual and accountable.

  • Basic IT skills, including email, spreadsheets and electronic records.
