Transport Planner / Yard Support

We are a busy Builders Merchants based in Rochester, Kent. We supply a huge range of building and timber materials.

Payless Builders Merchant is looking for an experienced and reliable Route Planner and yard support to join our team in Rochester.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience within logistics, transport or a construction\-related environment and be confident coordinating HGV operations in a busy, fast\-paced builders merchants. A small element of this role requires support in the yard as and when required.

Duties Include:

· Take ownership of the day\-to\-day coordination of a fleet of 6 x HGVs and 1 x 3\.5t tipper transporting various building/landscaping products.

· Organise driver and vehicle allocation in line with daily operational demands, ensuring resources are used as effectively as possible.

· Work closely with customers and internal teams to ensure collections and deliveries are arranged and completed on schedule.

· Keep track of vehicles throughout the working day and deal promptly with any delays, breakdowns, changes or last\-minute requirements.

· Ensure transport operations are carried out within all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including drivers’ hours, working time and Operator Licence obligations.

· Produce and manage daily transport plans, delivery information and associated paperwork, keeping records accurate and up to date.

· Maintain regular contact with drivers, providing them with relevant instructions, route information and updates as plans change.

· Look for ways to improve the efficiency of the transport operation, including better vehicle utilisation, reduced unnecessary mileage and lower operating costs.

· Record key transport information and provide support with performance monitoring and reporting.

· Work collaboratively with the wider transport and operations function to maintain a dependable, safe and well\-organised service.

Desirable Skills:

· Previous experience in a transport, logistics planning or coordination position.

Counter balance licence an advantage.

· A background in arranging HGV movements, ideally within construction a similar logistics environment.

· Good knowledge of transport legislation, including drivers’ hours and working time requirements.

· Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and changing requirements.

· Confident communicator with a professional and customer\-focused approach.

· Comfortable using Microsoft Office programs.

· Able to think on your feet, prioritise effectively and make sound decisions in a busy operational environment.

What We Offer

• £35,000 to £36,500 per annum.


• Option of weekly or monthly pay


• Up to 4% Pension Contribution.

Monday to Friday: 07:00 to 17:15

Alternate Saturdays: 07:00 to 12:30

Pay: £35,000\.00\-£36,500\.00 per year
