Transport Planner
Main Objectives:
We are seeking an organised and proactive Transport Planner to coordinate and optimise the daily movement of soils, aggregates, and recycled materials across multiple customer and site locations. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning vehicle routes, scheduling deliveries and collections, ensuring compliance with transport regulations, and maintaining high levels of customer service while maximising fleet efficiency.
This role requires strong logistical planning skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively in a fast\-paced construction and haulage environment.
What you’ll be responsible for:
· Plan and schedule daily transport deliveries and collections for tipper, grab, and aggregate vehicles.
· Optimise vehicle utilisation, routing, and driver allocation to maximise efficiency and profitability.
· Allocating work for each vehicle to complete a daily route on our digital software WeighSoft to ensure a quick dynamic response.
· Liaise with drivers, site managers, customers, weighbridges, quarries, and recycling facilities regarding schedules and delivery requirements.
· Monitor vehicle movements and respond quickly to operational changes, delays, breakdowns, or customer requests.
· Ensure all transport activities comply with:
\- Driver hours and Working Time Directive regulations
\- FORS requirements (where applicable)
\- Health \& Safety policies
\- Waste carrier and environmental regulations
· Maintain accurate transport records and delivery schedules
· Maintaining all sales tickets are correct before being passed to invoicing team.
· Build strong working relationships with customers and suppliers to ensure excellent service levels.
· Planning and communicating site requirements for future calendar days
· To secure subcontract hauliers and external transport providers to ensure daily tasks are completed in a cost effective manner.
· Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce transport costs.
Personal Specification
Essential
· Previous experience in transport planning, haulage logistics, or fleet coordination.
· Good geographical knowledge of Southwest Wales/South Wales /Bristol
· Understanding of driver hours, tachograph regulations, and transport compliance.
· Strong organisational and problem\-solving skills.
· Ability to work under pressure and manage changing priorities.
· Excellent communication and customer service skills.
· Competent IT skills including transport management systems, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook.
Desirable
· Knowledge of quarry operations, muck\-away logistics, or aggregate supply chains.
· Experience using transport planning software and vehicle tracking systems.
· Waste management knowledge.
