We are seeking an experienced and motivated Transport Manager to lead our transport operations and ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant management of our vehicle fleet.

The Role

We are looking for a hands\-on Transport Manager with a valid Transport Manager CPC qualification and proven experience managing a large fleet of vehicles operating within a pallet network and general haulage environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily transport operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing drivers, optimising fleet performance, and delivering exceptional service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day\-to\-day management of a large commercial vehicle fleet.


• Maintain full compliance with Operator Licence requirements and DVSA regulations.


• Ensure all transport activities comply with UK transport legislation, drivers' hours, and Working Time Directive regulations.


• Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, MOTs, and defect reporting procedures.


• Lead, coach, and develop transport planners, drivers, and support staff.


• Monitor fleet utilisation, operational efficiency, and service performance.


• Manage pallet network deliveries and collections, ensuring adherence to KPIs and customer expectations.


• Investigate and resolve service issues, incidents, and operational challenges.


• Control transport costs and identify opportunities for improved efficiency.


• Liaise with customers, suppliers, and network partners to maintain excellent service levels.


• Produce management reports and analyse transport performance data.


• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the transport function.

Essential Requirements

• Valid National or International Transport Manager CPC Qualification.


• Minimum 5 years' experience managing transport operations within a pallet distribution, logistics, or general haulage environment.


• Proven experience managing a large fleet of HGV vehicles and drivers.


• Strong understanding of Operator Licence obligations and transport compliance.


• Excellent knowledge of driver hours, tachographs, and transport legislation.


• Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills.


• Experience using transport management systems and fleet management software.


• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast\-paced environment.


• Commercially aware with strong problem\-solving capabilities.

Desirable

• Experience working within a pallet network environment.


• Knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations.


• FORS accreditation experience.


• CPC in Road Haulage or related logistics qualifications.
