Transport Manager
Reporting to: Logistics Manager
Role Overview
Reporting to and Working closely with the Logistics Manager, the Transport Manager will be responsible for the effective day\-to\-day management of the transport operation, ensuring a safe, efficient and customer\-focused service.
The role will involve managing drivers and rotas, coordinating vehicles and transport planning, dealing with customer and staff issues, maintaining compliance and ensuring agreed service levels are achieved.
The successful candidate will be a practical, organised and proactive manager with good people\-management and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day\-to\-day transport operation and driver workforce.
- Prepare and manage driver and staff rotas.
- Coordinate transport plans to meet customer requirements and agreed SLAs.
- Deal effectively with driver, staff and customer issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant RSA, transport and health \& safety requirements.
- Ensure vehicle checks, maintenance, repairs and defects are properly managed.
- Ensure transport paperwork, timesheets, job updates and PODs are completed accurately and on time.
- Monitor customer KPIs and transport performance.
- Work closely with customers, suppliers and internal departments.
- Manage and supervise transport staff and support good communication across the team.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, fleet utilisation and transport costs.
- Assist the Logistics Manager with transport projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Transport Manager CPC / Certificate of Professional Competence.
- Minimum 3 years' relevant transport experience.
- Experience managing drivers, staff and rotas.
- Good knowledge of transport operations, fleet management and compliance.
- Experience working with customer SLAs and KPIs.
- Good organisational, communication and problem\-solving skills.
- Experience with transport/logistics systems is desirable.
- Commercial awareness and a customer\-focused approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy, hands\-on environment.
