Transport & Logistics Manager
About the Role:
We are seeking a practical and commercially minded Transport \& Logistics Manager to take responsibility for the planning and control of transport operations across our group of businesses.
This is a hands\-on role focused on ensuring products and raw materials move efficiently, cost\-effectively and in line with production requirements. You will be responsible for managing transport activity from order through to delivery, coordinating hauliers, scheduling site activity and ensuring customers receive a professional service.
The successful candidate will have experience of making real\-world transport decisions, balancing customer service, operational requirements and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Planning \& Control
- Plan and coordinate daily and weekly transport activities.
- Allocate work to subcontract hauliers and monitor performance.
- Optimise routes, vehicle utilisation and backload opportunities.
- Manage transport schedules to achieve high service levels whilst controlling costs.
- Resolve day\-to\-day transport issues and delivery exceptions.
- Coordinate inbound raw material deliveries with production requirements.
- Schedule loading and unloading activities to maximise site efficiency.
- Work closely with production and customer service teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Control vehicle arrivals and departures to minimise disruption and downtime.
- Ensure customers receive clear communication regarding delivery schedules.
- Manage delivery changes, delays and service issues professionally.
- Liaise with suppliers and hauliers to coordinate inbound and outbound logistics activity.
- Maintain strong working relationships with customers, suppliers and transport providers.
- Monitor transport costs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support compliance with transport legislation and company procedures.
- Maintain transport records, KPI reporting and performance analysis.
- Manage company drivers, 6 week checks and legislative requirements.
- Assist with fleet and transport management activities where required.
- Identify opportunities to improve service, efficiency and cost performance.
- Develop and implement improved logistics processes and scheduling systems.
- Contribute to operational planning and business improvement initiatives.

- Transport Manager CPC qualification.
- Experience managing outsourced haulage providers.
- Experience working within manufacturing, agriculture, logistics or distribution environments.
- Experience of fleet management and transport compliance.
