Commwire is a growing telecommunications and IT services company providing network, cabling, Wi\-Fi, fibre and technology services to commercial and national retail clients.

We currently have a team of 15 field engineers and 6 administration/management staff, and we are looking for a Trainee Telecommunications \& Network Engineer to join our field engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in IT, networking, telecommunications and structured cabling. Full training will be provided, and you will work alongside our experienced lead engineers, gaining practical experience across a wide range of technologies and working environments.

The Role

As a Trainee Engineer, you will work as part of our field engineering team, assisting with installations, upgrades, maintenance and project work for our customers.

You will receive training and practical experience in areas including:

• Structured data and network cabling


• Fibre optic cabling and networks


• Wi\-Fi installation and network infrastructure


• Telecommunications and telephone systems


• Routers and network hardware


• PC and hardware upgrades


• EPOS/till installations and upgrades


• Software and hardware upgrades across a range of platforms


• Testing, fault finding and problem solving


• Working on both new\-build construction projects and commercial premises

Our projects are carried out across Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland, so the role involves regular travel and, where required, working away from home.

Some projects are completed outside normal business hours to minimise disruption to our customers. Night shifts and out\-of\-hours work are therefore a requirement of the role, with an additional uplift paid for qualifying work.

About You

Previous IT, computing or telecommunications experience would be an advantage, but full training will be provided. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate the right attitude and willingness to learn.

You should be:

• Reliable, punctual and flexible


• Keen to learn and develop new practical and technical skills


• Interested in IT, networking, telecommunications or technology


• A good communicator, both verbally and by email


• Organised and able to pay close attention to detail


• Comfortable working as part of a team and independently when required


• Professional and courteous when dealing with customers


• Willing to travel throughout Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland


• Willing to work occasional nights and out\-of\-hours shifts


• Comfortable working on construction sites and in commercial environments


• A holder of a full UK driving licence – essential for this role


• A CSCS card would be beneficial, although it is not essential.
