Tools Development Engineer - Automated Coating Application
Are you our new Tools Development Engineer for Automated Coating Application?
Hempel is looking for a new colleague who can join our ambitious team. The role requires close cross\-functional collaboration to translate application needs into practical engineering solutions that can be tested, scaled, and implemented safely in the field. You will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.
What will your responsibilities look like?
Tool and Equipment Development
- Develop, prototype, and improve tools, fixtures, and support equipment for coating application processes, with focus on automated and semi\-automated solutions.
- Support design for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and safe operation in industrial coating environments.
- Contribute to development of automated coating application concepts by integrating mechanical components, electronics, sensors, actuators, and control elements.
- Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of tool performance in laboratory, workshop, and field environments.
- Support selection and validation of components and suppliers for tool development projects.
- Prepare technical drawings, specifications, test plans, and development documentation for new tools and modifications.
- Coordinate with application specialists, coating advisors, R\&D colleagues, and external vendors to ensure timely delivery and practical implementation of solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of application methods, reliability, and repeatability in automated coating processes.
- Successful development and implementation of fit\-for\-purpose tools and equipment
- On\-time completion of development milestones, tests, and documentation
- Improved reliability, repeatability, and safety in coating application processes
- Effective support to automation initiatives and field implementation
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3–7 years of experience in product development, tool development, industrial equipment, automation, or special\-purpose machinery, preferably in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Hands\-on experience with mechanical design and/or electronics integration, depending on background.
- Experience with testing, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of automation, robotics, industrial equipment, or coating application processes is an advantage.
- Fluency in English
- Willingness to work hands\-on in workshop, test, and field environments.
- Practical engineering mindset with strong problem\-solving skills
- Curious, development\-oriented, and comfortable working with new technology
- Structured and detail\-oriented approach to testing and documentation
- Ability to move between concept work and hands\-on practical execution
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and operational teams
- Persistent, adaptable, and focused on delivering workable solutions
