Our Thoroughbred Talents Graduate Programme (Racecourse Operations Stream) will commence in October 2026\. This is a unique two\-year programme designed to immerse you in the dynamic and multifaceted world of racecourse operations within the Irish horse racing industry.

As part of Horse Racing Ireland (HRI), you will gain hands\-on experience across key operational, commercial, and racing functions, developing a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver world\-class race days and support the continued success of the sport.

Programme Rotations

The programme will encompass rotations in areas such as the following:

Racecourses

Graduates will immerse themselves in the fast\-paced world of racecourse operations and event management. You will actively contribute to the planning and delivery of both racing and non\-racing events, gaining hands\-on experience in logistics, scheduling, customer experience, and on\-the\-day coordination. This placement provides a comprehensive understanding of the operational complexities involved in hosting successful race meetings.

HRI Racecourses Commercial Department

During this rotation, graduates will gain exposure to the commercial side of the racing industry. You will support activities relating to sponsorships, partnerships, marketing initiatives, and revenue generation. This experience will help you build a strong foundation in commercial strategy while understanding how racecourses drive growth and enhance customer engagement.

Racing Department

Within the Racing Department, graduates will work closely with industry professionals to support the day\-to\-day running of racing. You will gain valuable insights into race planning, regulatory frameworks, and the governance of the sport, as well as the coordination required to ensure the smooth delivery of race meetings.

Leopardstown Racecourse Masterplan Project

Graduates will also gain exposure to strategic development projects, including the Leopardstown Masterplan. This provides a unique opportunity to understand long\-term planning, capital development, and the evolution of racecourse facilities to enhance the customer and stakeholder experience.

Programme Experience

In addition to your rotations, you will:

  • Attend horse sales and experience the commercial and bloodstock side of the industry

  • Engage in Racehorse Ownership open days, gaining exposure to owners and syndicates

  • Work across HRI locations, including Newbridge (Co. Kildare) and racecourses such as Fairyhouse, Navan, Leopardstown, and Tipperary

  • Develop a well\-rounded understanding of the operational and strategic elements that make the racing industry unique
Key Qualities We Are Looking For
  • Educational Background: Have completed a Level 8 honours degree within the last two years

  • Passion for Racing: A genuine interest in working within the horse racing industry

  • Ambitious and Innovative: A drive to succeed and bring new ideas in a dynamic environment

  • Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset

  • Relevant Competencies: Previous work experience, internships, or extracurricular activities demonstrating transferable skills

  • Communication Skills: Strong organisational and communication abilities, particularly in event\-driven environments

  • Transport: Full driving licence and access to transport is required

  • Second\-Round interviews with Senior Management
Candidates who successfully navigate the initial interview stage are invited to a second round, where you will have the opportunity to interact with senior management. This stage delves deeper into candidate's potential contributions to the organization and allows senior leaders to assess the alignment of the candidate with the overall strategic goals of the company.
  • Final Selection
After thorough evaluation and consideration of all stages, the final selection is made. Successful candidates will be offered a place on the Thoroughbred Talents Graduate Programme, marking the beginning of your professional journey with the organisation.
