Northwood Hospital is one of Bristol's newest and most exciting private healthcare facilities. Opened in October 2025, our purpose\-built hospital has been designed to deliver exceptional patient care within a modern, premium clinical environment.
Conveniently located close to the M32 and Bristol Parkway Station, the hospital features two state\-of\-the\-art operating theatres, an eight\-bed inpatient ward, a six\-bed day case suite, and three outpatient consulting rooms.
We currently specialise in plastic and reconstructive surgery and are embarking on an exciting period of growth, with plans to expand our surgical services into general, orthopaedics, and ophthalmology, with ongoing plans for service expansion.
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Theatre Assistant (Healthcare Assistant) to join our perioperative team and help deliver an outstanding patient experience within our operating theatres and clinical areas.
The Role
As a Theatre Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient running of our theatres while helping to ensure patients receive exceptional care throughout their surgical journey.
Working closely with Theatre Practitioners, Consultants, Anaesthetists and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will assist with patient preparation, theatre setup, stock management, and maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Support patients before and after surgery, ensuring comfort, dignity and reassurance at all times.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
- Provide compassionate care and emotional support to patients and their relatives.
- Assist clinical staff with patient observations and routine care as directed.
- Prepare operating theatres and clinical areas for surgical procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning and transfers in accordance with safe moving and handling procedures.
- Support theatre teams during surgical lists as required.
- Ensure equipment, consumables and stock are available and appropriately stored.
- Assist with specimen handling and transportation in line with hospital procedures.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout theatre and clinical areas.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and PPE requirements.
- Complete daily and weekly equipment checks as required.
- Report faults, hazards or safety concerns promptly.
- Support compliance with hospital policies, procedures and governance standards.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, nurses, ODPs and other healthcare professionals.
- Support efficient theatre utilisation and patient flow.
- Demonstrate flexibility to meet the needs of the service.
- Contribute positively to a professional and patient\-focused culture.

- Flexible and willing to work a range of shifts, including evenings and weekends where required.
- Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant, Theatre Assistant, Clinical Support Worker or similar healthcare role.
- Understanding of patient care and confidentiality requirements.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Previous experience within an operating theatre environment.
- Care Certificate.
- Moving and Handling training.
- Experience within a private healthcare setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
