A Technical Sales Engineer is needed to join Portable Power Technology, a specialist in mobile and off grid power solutions based in West Kingsdown, Kent. This is a varied opportunity for someone with a good understanding of electrical systems who enjoys solving technical problems, working with customers and turning real world requirements into practical power solutions.

Portable Power Technology has more than 15 years of experience designing and supplying intelligent power systems for commercial vehicles, marine, leisure and off grid applications. Its solutions combine technologies including lithium batteries, inverters, battery management, solar and charging systems, helping customers access reliable power wherever mains electricity is unavailable.

As Technical Sales Engineer, you'll become a trusted technical contact for new and existing customers. You'll understand what they need to power, assess their application and specify the right products or complete system. You'll provide technical support by phone and email, troubleshoot problems, prepare quotations, follow up opportunities and help develop new customer relationships.

This is a small, hands on business, so the role offers plenty of variety beyond technical sales. You'll get involved with testing products and new ideas, basic repairs, processing orders and supporting stock and warehouse activities when required. There will also be opportunities to attend trade shows and visit customers, giving you broad exposure to both the commercial and technical sides of the business.

To qualify: You might be a Technical Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Technical Support Engineer or similar with a CV that demonstrates

  • Good knowledge of low voltage DC electrical circuits, batteries and electrical principles

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly

  • Confidence troubleshooting technical problems and recommending practical solutions

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office

  • A practical, flexible approach and willingness to contribute across a small team

  • A full UK driving licence, essential due to the office location
Experience within automotive, marine, renewable energy, commercial vehicles or off grid power would be advantageous, as would a relevant qualification in electrical engineering, electronic engineering or renewable energy. Full product training is available, so attitude, technical aptitude and a willingness to learn are equally important.

In return, you'll receive a salary of £30,000 to £35,000 depending on experience, with the opportunity to earn commission following successful completion of probation. You'll also receive 28 days annual leave including bank holidays, sick pay and pension, while joining a friendly, knowledgeable team where you can build genuine technical expertise and progress as the business grows.

The role is based at Portable Power Technology's West Kingsdown office, working Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
