Team Leader [Signalling Maintenance]
Who We Are
--------------
We are Central route. We are the Heart of Britain's Railway. More than a million people rely on us every week, and we help transport nearly a million tonnes of freight every month. But we are more than just tracks and trains, we are a catalyst for jobs and opportunities, a connection to leisure and time with family and friends, and a foundation for communities and neighbourhoods.
We are a key part of the national network, with Birmingham New Street \- the busiest station outside of London and the hub of the railway \- connecting England, Scotland and Wales, with hundreds of services arriving and leaving every day.
About the role
------------------
Do you hold \- or are you working towards \- an IRSE licence?
Do you enjoy hands¿on problem¿solving and tackling complex electrical and technical challenges?
Are you motivated by knowing your leadership directly helps keep passengers moving safely every day?
Signalling \& Telecoms is a dynamic and safety¿critical discipline that blends electrical and mechanical engineering with real¿world problem solving. No two days are the same. From using specialist electronic testing equipment and measuring critical electrical parameters, to working with mechanical systems that control train movements, you'll be part of a role that is technically challenging, varied and deeply rewarding.
You'll lead and work alongside a skilled team responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing a wide range of essential railway assets. These include signalling control systems, mechanical signalling equipment, track circuits, axle counters, point machines, power supplies, transformers, rectifiers, battery chargers and telecoms infrastructure. Everything you and your team work on plays a vital role in keeping the railway safe, reliable and moving.
As a Team Leader, you'll be trusted to direct, organise and motivate a high¿performing team, while working closely with management and collaborating with other departments and external partners. You'll remain hands¿on throughout inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal activities, setting the standard through your technical expertise and leadership.
Safety, quality and compliance will be at the heart of what you do. You'll establish robust safety arrangements for each task and ensure both Network Rail staff and contractors follow safe systems of work. By proactively managing competence, checking the quality of work and ensuring all assets meet maintenance standards, you'll make sure vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials are safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
This is more than just a leadership role \- it's an opportunity to shape performance, develop people and build a long¿term career in one of the railway's most critical disciplines. If you're ready to take ownership, lead with confidence and make a measurable difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.
This role requires flexibility, as you'll work a varied shift pattern, but rosters are provided in advance so you can plan your time around family, friends and personal commitments. You'll also be working outdoors throughout the year, so you should be comfortable operating in all weather conditions.
