Team Leader - Community Advice Projects
Reporting to: Deputy Chief Officer
Salary: £26,000 \- £28,500per annum (pro rata) \- depending on experience
Hours: 29 per week
Term: 12 month fixed term (may be extended, subject to funding)
Location: Leigh/Wigan and across Wigan Borough
Purpose of Post : This role will play a pivotal role in expanding and strengthening the reach of Citizens Advice Wigan Borough (CAWB) within the community. The post holder will lead a dedicated team to deliver high\-quality advice services, while supporting our community engagement strategy. This includes recruiting and inducting outreach volunteers, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge they need to work independently, developing relationships with local partners, and delivering capacity\-building training to equip external organisations to identify and signpost or refer residents in need.
The post holder will undertake quality reviews, monitor performance against KPIs utilising a variety of performance monitoring tools, responding quickly and effectively to areas of concern, and provide reports to the management team.
Some advice cover will also be required on occasion.
This role requires the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of our clients. You may need to work later evenings (until 7pm) and some Saturdays.

Main duties:
Line Management
- Performance manage a team of paid staff, undertaking regular supervision meetings and annual reviews to ensure high standards of service delivery
- Recognise the different needs, strengths and weaknesses of staff and provide appropriate support
- Undertake quality reviews and assessments, including the observation of live interviews,and provide constructive feedback to aid staff development
- Report issues, concerns, achievements and exceptional contributions made to our clients, team members and/or the service, to the management team
- Participate in the recruitment, induction and training activities of new staff members
- Develop a service in which everyone feels valued and is motivated to achieve their best for both clients and themselves
- Assist with the recruitment, induction \& training activities of community outreach volunteers, ensuring a diverse and sustainable volunteer base
- Participate in ongoing mentorship and support of volunteers to ensure retention and high\-quality service delivery
- Encourage feedback from volunteers to support a positive volunteer experience and learning journey
- Assist with undertaking supervision \& annual reviews with volunteers
- Contribute to volunteer communications activities
- Deliver training sessions to partner organisations, frontline workers, and community leaders
- Equip external partners with the skills to identify early signs of social, financial or legal vulnerability and effectively signpost or refer individuals to CAWB or other appropriate organisations
- Review and adapt training materials to ensure they remain relevant, impactful, and accessible.
- Proactively identify and engage with prospective outreach hosts (e.g., community hubs, libraries, food banks, faith groups) and local partner organisations
- Work with the deputy Chief Officer and other colleagues to organise the setting up, staffing and promotion, of outreaches
- Promote CAWB’s services through networking, presentations, and community events to raise awareness and foster collaborative working
- Undertake regular service reviews with existing outreach hosts to ensure locations remain viable, safe, and effective for service users.
- Undertake advice giving activities as required to cover staff absences, in accordance with Citizens Advice, funder and quality requirements
- Act for the client where necessary using appropriate communication skills and channels
- Signpost or refer as appropriate
- Undertake case and outcome recording as required under CAWB, Advice Quality Standard, funder and Citizens Advice requirements
- Assist with the collection of client feedback and outcomes monitoring.
- Follow all procedures for staff management
- Ensure that staff records are maintained
- Provide regular reports to the Senior Leadership team as directed
- Promote the work of the Company and the Citizens Advice service and maintain good relationships with external agencies
- As a representative of the Company demonstrate professionalism at all times
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures
- Ensure that work reflects and supports the Citizens Advice service's equality and diversity strategy
- Keep up to date with changes to legislation, case law, and policies and procedures
- Attend and actively participate in internal and external meetings as directed
- Ensure health \& safety and risk assessments practices are followed
- Contribute to good teamwork and maintaining effective lines of communication between all members of staff in the Company
- Identify your training and development needs relevant to your role and undertake continuing professional development, in consultation with your line manager
- Carry out any other related tasks as required to ensure that the Company’s services are efficiently and effectively provided, including provision of assistance and support to colleagues
