Teaching Assistant
Art Teaching Assistant - SEMH School
We are recruiting for an Art Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH setting, supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs through creative arts.
This is a hands-on role where you will work alongside the Lead Art Teacher to deliver engaging art lessons, support emotional regulation through creative expression, and help students build confidence in a safe and supportive environment. You will assist with a range of mediums including painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and craft activities, while also supporting behaviour management and sensory regulation.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting Art, Craft and Design lessons
- Running small group and 1:1 creative interventions
- Helping students use art as a tool for self-expression and emotional regulation
- Managing behaviour using a calm, low-arousal approach
- Preparing materials and maintaining a safe, organised studio environment
- Working closely with pastoral, therapy and SEN teams
- Experience working with SEMH, SEND, PRU or alternative provision students
- Background in art, design, creative therapies or a TA qualification
- Practical skills across a range of creative disciplines
- Understanding of behaviour support, emotional regulation and trauma-informed practice
- Patient, resilient and passionate about making a difference through creativity
Contract: Full-time, temporary
This role would suit someone with a genuine passion for art and a desire to use creativity to support young people's emotional wellbeing and personal development.
