Tax Assistant Manager
Octopus Energy Generation is a specialist energy investment manager, overseeing more than £7 billion of assets under management. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to a net zero energy system by investing in clean energy infrastructure and energy transition businesses.
Our strategies span renewable generation, distributed energy, and broader energy transition platforms across multiple technologies and jurisdictions. As our portfolio of development-stage and growth strategies continues to expand, we are strengthening our in-house tax capability to provide proactive, commercially focused support across fund structures and underlying investments.
We are seeking a Tax Manager to join the OEGen Tax Team, reporting directly to the Head of Tax. This role will take primary responsibility for a defined bucket of OEGen’s development funds and associated structures. Unlike platform-embedded tax roles, this position sits within the fund management company and has oversight across the full fund lifecycle- from investment structuring and governance through to portfolio holding structures and exit.
You will act as the central tax lead for these funds, working closely with investment teams, portfolio companies, finance teams, and external advisors across multiple jurisdictions. The role combines fund-level tax strategy and governance with hands-on oversight of compliance, reporting, risk management, and transaction execution.
This position offers both breadth and depth: exposure to complex international holding structures, diverse operating models, and direct engagement with senior stakeholders across the business.
What you'll do
- Support the management of tax matters across OEGen funds and associated holding structures.
- Coordinate international tax compliance processes with local advisors across multiple jurisdictions.
- Assist with tax reporting, tax provisioning, and financial statement disclosures.
- Support tax workstreams on acquisitions, restructurings, refinancings, and other transactions.
- Review transaction and financing documentation from a tax perspective, with support from senior team members where needed.
- Monitor tax risks and support ongoing governance and compliance processes.
- Work closely with investment, finance, legal, and external advisory teams across the business.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal tax processes and documentation.
- Around 4–5 years’ experience in corporate tax.
- CTA, ACA, or equivalent qualification (or close to qualification).
- Experience gained in a Big 4 firm, international advisory firm, law firm, or in-house tax team.
- Good grounding in tax compliance, reporting, and tax accounting.
- Exposure to cross-border structures or international tax matters is helpful, but deep expertise is not expected.
- An interest in infrastructure, energy, or investment management is a plus.
- Foreign language skills (particularly German, French, Spanish, or Italian) would be beneficial but are not required.
- Most importantly, we are looking for someone with strong reasoning skills, good commercial awareness, and a willingness to learn. This role would suit someone looking to grow into a broader international tax management role over time, working closely with experienced senior stakeholders in a supportive and collaborative environment.
