*The Role*

As a Learning Mentor, you will provide personalised 1:1 support to children and young people with special educational needs and/or additional needs.

You will work closely with each young person to understand their individual strengths, needs, interests and barriers to learning, adapting your approach to help them engage, progress and develop greater independence.

The successful candidate will be someone who can build positive, trusting relationships, provide consistent support and create a calm, safe and encouraging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high\-quality 1:1 learning, pastoral and emotional support.


• Build positive and trusting relationships with children and young people.


• Support engagement with learning and encourage participation and achievement.


• Adapt activities and learning approaches to meet individual needs and abilities.


• Support young people with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience and behaviour.


• Encourage communication, social skills and independence.


• Identify and celebrate individual progress and achievements.


• Help young people overcome barriers to learning and develop their strengths.


• Follow individual learning programmes, support plans and agreed strategies.


• Maintain appropriate records and contribute to monitoring and reviewing progress.


• Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and other professionals where appropriate.


• Follow all Horizon Hub policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety and confidentiality requirements.


• Promote the welfare, dignity and inclusion of every young person.

We are looking for someone who is:

• Passionate about supporting children and young people with SEN.


• Caring, patient, reliable and emotionally resilient.


• Warm and approachable, with excellent interpersonal skills.


• Able to establish appropriate professional boundaries while developing positive relationships.


• Flexible and able to adapt their approach to meet individual needs.


• Calm and confident when supporting young people experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties.


• Creative and enthusiastic about finding ways to engage young people in learning.


• Able to work independently while also being an effective member of a wider team.


• Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.


• Professional, dependable and committed to continuous learning and development.

Experience of working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable, particularly experience of supporting individuals with:

• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)


• Speech, language and communication needs


• Language delay


• Emotional and behavioural needs


• Social, emotional and mental health needs


• Other special educational needs and disabilities

We are particularly interested in candidates who understand that every young person is different and who can adapt their communication and support strategies accordingly.

*Training \& Induction*

Ideally, applicants will be available this month for initial training and induction sessions. This will provide an opportunity to become familiar with Horizon Hub, our approach and the individual needs of the young people we support.
