About Landmark Systems
Landmark Systems has been providing specialist accounting and business management software to UK farmers for over 39 years. Our KEYPrime desktop software is trusted by thousands of farms across the country. We’re rebuilding years of hard\-won agricultural domain knowledge as a modern, cloud\-native SaaS product, and we’re looking for a Staff Engineer to help us get the big technical decisions right.
The Opportunity
Our next\-generation product is cloud\-native, not cloud\-ported. That means genuinely interesting problems, not a lift\-and\-shift:
· Multi\-tenancy done properly — from single farms to multi\-entity groups, accountancy practices and resellers. How we model tenants, organisations and licenses is a live architectural question, and you’d help answer it.
· A model\-driven platform — much of the product is generated from a declarative metadata layer that produces both the .NET back end and the Vue front end. Knowing when to work with that grain and when to build a bespoke escape hatch is a real craft.
· AI as a first\-class capability — our platform ships with semantic search, retrieval and agent tooling built in. We expect our engineers to build with AI, and to build AI\-backed features into the product itself.
· A long, deliberate migration — moving a loyal, established customer base from a mature desktop product to the cloud, without breaking the trust that took 25 years to earn.
Key Responsibilities
· Own the hard technical decisions end to end — multi\-tenancy, data modelling, platform trade\-offs.
· Set the technical direction on the problems that matter most and bring the rest of the team with you.
· Elevate the performance of those around you : coaching senior engineers, strengthening how we design, review and ship.
· Lead the solution architecture conversations — bringing engineering, product and domain experts into the room and guiding them to decisions everyone trusts.
· Work pragmatically inside a vendor platform we don’t fully control — pushing it where it helps, working around it where it doesn’t.
· Be the person who gets to the bottom of the hard problems — the intermittent, cross\-layer, “nobody knows why” bugs that span generated code, data, tenancy and infrastructure.
· Build AI\-native workflows into both how we engineer and what our customers use.
Essential Requirements
· 5\+ years of senior web engineering leadership — setting technical direction and owning decisions on web/SaaS products — though we care far more about the calibre of your judgement than the number on your CV.
· Deep, current full\-stack experience across .NET / C\# and a modern front\-end framework with TypeScript — React, Angular or Vue. We build on Vue 3, but strong React or Angular engineers are just as welcome.
· A track record of owning consequential architecture decisions under ambiguity — and being right often enough to be trusted with the next one.
· Real experience of multi\-tenant SaaS and cloud\-native delivery on Azure (containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD).
· Exceptional debugging and troubleshooting instincts — you can reason from symptom to root cause across an unfamiliar, layered system.
· Drive and initiative — you move toward the hard problems and step up without being asked, motivated by shipping things customers value.
· The judgement to know when *not* to engineer — you build the right\-sized solution, resist gold\-plating, and ship rather than polish.
· AI\-native engineering — you already build with AI tooling, and you can design LLM\-backed product features (retrieval, semantic search, agents).
· The judgement and influence of someone who lifts a team rather than just out\-codes it — a natural coach who leads solution architecture discussions and brings people with them.
· Comfort evolving an established product toward cloud\-native without losing what makes it valuable.
Our stack
.NET / C\# · Vue 3 · TypeScript · Vite · Pinia · PostgreSQL · multi\-tenant SaaS · Azure · Kubernetes · Azure DevOps · real\-time messaging · a built\-in AI stack (semantic search, retrieval, agents).
Why join us
· Real problems and real ownership — you’ll shape the solution architecture.
· A rare mix: an established, profitable business with a genuine build\-from\-scratch product mission.
· A small, capable team where a Staff Engineer’s judgement carries real weight.
· Backing from a larger European agricultural software group.
· Hybrid working from our Pulborough
