JOB OVERVIEW

As a Specialist Children’s and Young Persons Occupational Therapist you will be working as part of our Occupational Therapy Team that works Term Time Only ( 39 weeks a year based on St Helens academcic year)

What does Term Time Only Mean to you ?

Term Time Only means that you have all school holidays off ( 13 weeks a year) . Salary is a FTE £40,000 ( subject to negotiation for the right candidate) for 37\.5 hours and this makes a pro\-rata Gross Salary of £34,615\.38 and monthly Gross £2,884\.62\.

Role \& Responsibilities

You will be expected to undertake a supervisor role for newly qualified Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants and Student Occupational Therapists.

You will be responsible for managing your own caseload and diary.

This opportunity involves community\-based assessments and interventions and as such a driving license and access to your own car is essential.

Day to day responsibilities of the role and characteristics of an ideal candidate include:

  • Ability to effectively engage with service users and their caregivers.

  • Ability to provide assessments and support to service users who present with a wide range of diagnoses and needs. Including but not limited to, Sensory Processing Difficulties, Dyspraxia, Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.

  • Confidence with process of gathering information and building a therapeutic rapport with those using the service.

  • Competence with utilising both standardised and non\-standardised assessments to formulate effective clinical reasoning, produce professional reports and provide feedback to caregivers to discuss Occupational Therapy outcomes, goals and recommendations.

  • Ability to form strong work relationships with external professionals within the Local Authority or Case Management Companies, to support clients throughout the Occupational Therapy Process.

  • Ability to clinically reason the most appropriate intervention to support individuals to achieve their therapy goals, relating to several areas of occupational engagement. Including but not limited to handwriting difficulties, issues with coordination challenges, fine and gross motor skill development, concentration levels, physical strength and fatigue or sensory processing differences.

  • Being a role model for Liverpool Occupational Therapy Services within local schools, while facilitating Service Level Agreements and providing school\-based assessments and interventions.

  • Building rapport with school staff and liaising with SENCOs, Teachers, and Parents in relation to the necessary support provided.

  • Presenting a consistent duty of care as per RCOT and HCPC guidelines to keep up to date clinical records for all clients seen across the wide range of environments, management of these records is essential as well as ensuring written consent is gained prior to any therapy involvement.

  • Delegation of suitable tasks to an Occupational Therapy Assistant to support management of caseload and prioritisation of clients.
ADDITIONAL CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE
  • Supporting Student Occupational Therapist’s through practice placements following relevant practice educator training.

  • Undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by an Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant or Director.
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • You must have evidence of post graduate training engagement. Within the role you will have a responsibility to actively engage in clinical supervision on a regular basis with your clinical supervisor. Informal supervision can also be sought.

  • To seek out training or educational opportunities that directly support progression within your role and relating to appraisal goals, while enhancing the company.

  • To show dedication to seeking out CPD opportunities and keeping up to date with your personal CPD record.

  • To actively engage in researching up\-to\-date evidence to be used as clinical foundation for intervention planning and delivery.

  • To engage in reflective practice in order to evaluate progression.

  • To engage in the appraisal process and be responsible for identifying and fulfilling goals set within this.
PROFESSIONAL/ORGANISATIONAL
  • HCPC registration and RCOT membership is essential. You must practice within the guidelines set out by organisational and professional bodies.

  • To communicate effectively with clients, families, and other professionals through a range of methods (verbal, email, telephone etc).

  • Demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills during management of own workload and to be flexible in working patterns to support the needs of clients.

  • Responsible for complying with all mandatory training requirements.
