Volant Autonomy is a well\-funded startup developing cutting\-edge autonomy solutions to transform the future of aviation. Based in the centre of Bath, we are building a suite of technologies to enable safe autonomous flight. Our work includes partnerships with organisations including Rolls\-Royce, AdaCore, several aerospace primes, air navigation service providers and the defence industry.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Flight Planning Integration team. You’ll help us bring our technology into real\-world operations.
The ideal candidate will have at least three years of industry experience and be enthusiastic about contributing across the full product lifecycle—from early\-stage planning to development, deployment, and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with customers to build bespoke integrations that meet their needs
- Design and build backend systems with opportunities in front\-end
- Prototype and iterate on new features quickly and effectively
- Support infrastructure deployment, and monitoring
- Write robust, well\-tested code and participate in code reviews
- Engage with stakeholders and customers to ensure features meet user needs
\- Essential
- Proficiency in Python/JavaScript or a similar high\-level language
- Keen to work across the stack, and motivated to learn in unfamiliar areas
- Experience with automated testing: unit, integration, and end\-to\-end
- 3 years of professional software development experience
- Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms
- Experience developing and working with REST APIs
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and knowledge of GitHub Actions or comparable CI tools
- Experience designing and building SaaS systems
- Exposure to trunk\-based development methodologies
- Previous experience or knowledge of working with GIS
- Previous experience, knowledge or interest of working in the Aerospace industry

We use a modern and evolving technology stack to build robust, scalable systems. You don’t need to have experience with all these technologies—we’re looking for people with strong core skills and a willingness to learn. Our current stack includes:
- Backend: Python (FastAPI, NumPy, Cython, Airflow)
- Frontend: TypeScript (Mapbox, Web Components), Event\-Driven Architectures, Tailwind CSS, DaisyUI
- Database: PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Alembic
- Infrastructure: AWS (EC2, ECS, RDS, Cognito, ...), Pulumi
- Automation: GitHub Actions

Pay: £35,000\.00\-£55,000\.00 per year
