Software Engineer - Python and K8s

Accountabilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain open source operations software using Python, with a focus on reliable and scalable workloads running on Kubernetes.


• Work across the Linux stack, including the kernel, networking, storage, virtualization, containers, and applications.


• Develop solutions that improve the reliability, automation, and operational efficiency of complex open source systems.


• Build and improve high-quality monitoring and alerting infrastructure to support reliable production operations.


• Simplify the operation of open source technologies for customers and the broader open source community.


• Apply sound software architecture, engineering, testing, documentation, and quality practices throughout the development lifecycle.


• Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure products operate reliably, efficiently, and at production scale.


• Follow agile software development methodologies and contribute to effective development workflows.


• Share technical knowledge and coach colleagues where appropriate, helping strengthen engineering capabilities across the team.


• Contribute to a healthy, collaborative engineering culture within a globally distributed organization.


• Work remotely while participating in global company and team events, typically involving travel once or twice per year for up to two weeks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, STEM, or a related technical field.


• Strong professional experience developing software with Python and an enthusiasm for solving technically challenging problems.


• Hands-on experience with Linux systems administration, package management, and production operations.


• Practical experience with at least one public cloud platform.


• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes and an understanding of containerized application environments.


• Strong understanding of software reliability principles and a commitment to designing and developing dependable systems.


• Interest in distributed systems and the ability to understand technologies across different layers of the Linux and cloud stack.


• Strong engineering discipline, including experience with software testing, maintainable code, and technical documentation.


• Good organization and time management skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality software within expected timelines.


• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a globally distributed engineering team.


• A genuine interest in open source software, cloud computing, and learning from technically strong colleagues.
