JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

Role Title: Software Developer

Reports to (Role Title): Scrum Master

Location: Chippenham Office

Employment Basis: Full Time, Permanent

Weekly Working Hours: 37\.5

Role Purpose

Protect and deliver IT Software Services across Woods Valldata to both internal and external clients. Be client and service focused. Deliver services on time and work to requirements. Ensure Woods Valldata has a sector leading information technology support and development services, which is secure and available.

Key Responsibilities

· Absolute security of systems and data \- take no risks with system and data security. Ensure all correct techniques within software development and Technical Operations are used to ensure system and data security, which is paramount.

· Client Service \- deliver client work to agreed quality and timescales to ensure exceptional client service.

· Confidentiality \- be professional and confidential always, conducting yourself with integrity in all matters relating to the Company’s information, reputation and its employees and clients.

Main Duties

  • Be aware of the compliance with PCI and GCRTS and other relevant standards.

  • Ensure annual appraisals are attended and you’re clear on your role and objectives.

  • Attend and take an active role in meetings, daily Stand\-ups offering opinion, and helping lead debate.

  • Ensure you’re aware and trained in the Company Information Security Management System.

  • Ensure you understand and follow the Company policies with regards to system, data, and physical security at all times.

  • Ensure you understand and follow the Company policies with regards to Health and Safety at all times.

  • Ensure you understand and follow the Company policies with regards compliance with PCI and GCRTS and other relevant standards.

  • Ensure you understand and follow the Company Standard Operating Procedures, where they exist.

  • Feedback on day\-to\-day operations to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Participate in Dev \& Test team meetings and share useful transferable skills.

  • Ensure priority requests for development are responded to in a timely manner.

  • Ensure all IT processes are adhered to at all times.

  • Review requirements and design documentation.

  • Assist other developers

  • Code reviews

  • Design the most effective method of implementing a solution from a schedule of requirements (non\-technical)

  • Write and locally test appropriate code using agreed technologies

  • Produce documentation detailing methodologies used

  • Adhere strictly to the company’s version control procedures

  • Track and report on times taken to complete developments, actual vs. estimates

  • Provide regular updates on blocked tasks ensuring that all interested parties are kept informed.

  • Participate when necessary, in development meetings including but not limited to:

  • o Sprint planning meetings;

  • o Daily (Scrum) update meetings; ando Estimation meetings.

  • Undertakes other ad hoc duties/projects as required
Educational Qualifications

Essential \- A Level or equivalent

Desirable \- Degree level

Required Experience

Core Development

· Strong professional experience with C\# / .NET

· Legacy system interoperability (older .NET Framework/VB.NET codebases, Windows Services)

· Proficient with Visual Studio as primary IDE

· Building and maintaining web applications using MVC/Razor or Blazor

· Developing and consuming APIs (REST\-style services, DTOs, integration between services)

· Desktop application development (WinForms or similar)

· Entity Framework (EF Core)

· Solid grounding in SOLID design principles and clean, maintainable architecture

Database / SQL Server

· Able to create and maintain tables, indexes, and stored procedures

· Confident writing and understanding complex queries across large datasets

· Strong query performance tuning skills

· Comfortable with both DDL and DML

Web \& Client\-Side

· Client\-side web libraries (JavaScript/TypeScript)

· Bootstrap for grid/layout framework

· Client\- and server\-side validation techniques

Architecture

· Designing clean service\-layer architectures and applying dependency injection effectively

· Comfortable refactoring and modernising legacy or tightly\-coupled code

Testing \& DevOps

· Unit testing frameworks (NUnit/Moq or equivalent)

· Azure DevOps — source control, branching strategies, and CI/CD pipelines

· Version control / Git fundamentals — branching, merging, resolving conflicts

· CI/CD pipeline authoring — building and maintaining pipelines, not just consuming them

· Debugging \& troubleshooting production issues

Cloud (Azure)

· Experience with Azure Web Apps, Azure Function Apps, Azure Storage, and Azure SQL Database

· Understanding of security best practices in a cloud context (e.g. secrets/credentials management, access control, secure configuration)

Ways of Working

· Comfortable working within Agile/Scrum practices (sprints, standups, backlog refinement)

· Code review experience — giving and receiving constructive feedback on PRs

· Clear communication skills, including with non\-technical stakeholders

Desirable experience

· Umbraco CMS development experience

· Reporting tools experience (e.g. Crystal Reports / Reporting Services)

· Database administration exposure (backups, maintenance plans, monitoring) beyond day\-to\-day development use

· Authentication/authorisation frameworks (Identity, OAuth/OpenID Connect, Azure AD/Entra ID)

· Logging/monitoring tools (Application Insights, Serilog, or similar)

· Accessibility (WCAG) awareness for public\-facing web apps
