Social Worker - Children's Assessment Team
Are you a children's social worker who is at your best at the front door, where the work is varied, fast moving and genuinely changes things for a family from the very first visit? Pro Social Partners are working in partnership with Medway Council to recruit a qualified Social Worker into their Children's Assessment Team, and this is a permanent opportunity worth a proper look.
About the team and the role
The Assessment Team is where it all starts. You will pick up new referrals, get out to see children and families quickly and work out what is really going on and what needs to happen next. It is the part of children's social work where your judgement matters most and where you see the direct result of good practice. Day to day you will:
- Carry out timely and good quality child and family assessments under the Children Act 1989
- Visit children and families, often at the point of crisis, and build trust quickly
- Analyse risk and make clear, confident decisions about the right level of support
- Complete section 47 enquiries and strategy work alongside police, health and education partners
- Write up your thinking clearly so the next team can pick the family up with a full picture
This is a permanent role, so you can settle in one place, build proper relationships with families and colleagues and grow a career rather than moving on every few months. Medway backs its social workers with a £5,000 market supplement and a £2,000 retention payment on top of salary, which tells you everything about how much they want to keep good people. Assessment experience is some of the most valued in children's services, so this is a role that opens doors to senior and specialist work later on. Medway itself sits on the Kent coast with fast links into London, good schools and a far kinder cost of living than the city, so it works whether you are relocating or already local.
